Hello,

I'm having problems with completing a disk check on my computer with both Nortons and Disk Check. I have windows XP and have norton's utitilties installed. Also have Zone Alarm and a Hot sync program for a palm pilot phone.

If I try to run Nortons Disk Doctor I get the following error: Yuck!

"The operating system, or another process, currently has exlusive access to this Drive. Disk doctor cannot repair under these conditions. Do you want to schedule at start up...."

If I try to run Disk Check I get the following error: : :P

"The disk Check could not be performed because the disk check utility needs exclusive access to some windows files on the disk. The files can be accessed only by starting Windows. Do you want to schedule at start up...."

When I answer yes to scheduling at start up with either Nortons or the Disk Check it will not repair the errors and asks me if I want to schedule at start up again. It just keeps me going in circles. Mad!!!

Any help will appreciated.

Thanks in advance

JB

With Windows XP you more than likely have an NTFS partitioned HD and with that it takes a different way of running a disk check. Click on START | PROGRAMS | ACCESSORIES | SYSTEM TOOLS and the DISK DEFRAGMENTOR or DISK CLEANUP.

Not sure if you have the Nortons that will work with an NTFS disk.

WEll XP doesn't come with a "disk check" as far as I know and as I said I am not sure if the Nortons you are using will work with an NTFS partition. If the XP supplied Disk defrag and cleanup worked you should be good to go and not need anything else.

I guess I should be saying erorr checking not disk check. If you go to start/my computer/right click on c drive/properties/tools. You can click on the check now button. When I do this I get the error I stated above. I think the defaulted "error check" and Nortons may be fighting each other.

Also typed chkdsk/f in run line, got an error asking me to check typing etc...

Thanks

LOL oKAY! XP and 2k have disk check, error checking, its old name was called SCANDISK, 2k and XP calls it error checking, any way its there.

The point, I have the same problem. I'm running windows 2k Pro. My girlfriend also has this problem. Go figure.

To TCH-Dick, when you run it on CMD it gives the same error. User chinookmtp probably type it incorrectly.

The problem is it can't get exclusive access to the drive. I can't figure out why though. It could be caused by Zone Alarm Pro.

This sucks, anyone clues would be great!
