ssh access?

Hello,

I just signed up, and apparently this is the only forum that I can post in right now since I haven't received my confirmation e-mail.

Anyhow, I have been reading a LOT of the forums, etc, and haven't found anything directly saying that there is SSH support. I have seen a few things that IMPLY that it is there (such as people downloading a squirrelmail rpm file and installing it, etc).

Anyhow, *IF* it is, is mutt or elm available for e-mail?

I sure hope this hosing company turns out better than my last one. The last one I had seemed to have problems w/ their FTP & SSH access, which didn't work about 80 - 90% of the time that I tried it. My page was always available, but it was hard to make changes!

Thanks!

SSH is not by default enabled on any of our accounts here. You will have to request the feature be enabled via a helpdesk ticket. In that request you will need to identify to us why (for what purposes) you need SSH enabled.

We do this for several reasons, but the primary reason is for security purposes.

As to the question of Mutt or Elm. After doing a quick Google search to find out what those actually are, I have to say that I don't know the answer to your question. I have never heard those email clients being referred to here before, so my first inclination is to say, "No, they aren't available." However, just because I don't know about them isn't to say they don't exist.

I'll do some more checking and see what I come up with.

I do have a question about why you were only able to post to this category in the forum? Is our forum blocking you from posting elsewhere or was it just your logical choice given that you hadn't received your account info yet? You should be able to post in any category you wish. We currently have posts in about every category from "Guests" so I need to know if the forum blocked you and I'll get that fixed.

Thank you.

TCH automatically provides you with both NeoMail and Horde for accessing email via a web browser thru the cPanel interface. However, these web mail solutions require access to TCP port 2095. Many people find that at work they cannot access NeoMail or Horde because of a company firewall blocking such access.

Thus, some people have installed SquirrelMail. Altho the instructions for SquirrelMail indicates you need SSH access to install it, that is not really true. The SSH access was only to run a setup script to customize SquirrelMail. However the configuration file it updates can be easily edited manually (even II did it!) and then copied over. I had SquirrelMail up and running immediately after that.

An alternate solution for retrieving your wemail via a web browser is Mail2Web, see:

I tried to post as an unregistered user on the backend services forum and could not. As for registering, I assumed that I needed my domain info to do so, but maybe I was wrong. Once I got my new account info I created a registered account & have had no problems since.

Thanks!
