TCH-Thomas Posted March 6, 2004 Posted March 6, 2004 (edited) I messed up a little when i changed domain names on one of my web hosting plans so i will need to reinstall the ipb forum im using. Since i didnt remember how to install it i peeked in the installation guide, it says: You do not need a new mySQL database as Invision Power Board supports table prefixes to prevent tables being overwritten. You will also need the mySQL username and mySQL password for a mySQL user that has permission to "CREATE", "DROP" and "ALTER" tables. You will need about 2mb of free web space and roughly 3mb of mySQL database space to allow installation and a moderately sized community. If you are unsure on any of these points, please ask your webhost before proceeding. Does the bold part mean i do not need to create a mySQL database in cpanel? Edited March 6, 2004 by Jikrantz Quote
borfast Posted March 6, 2004 Posted March 6, 2004 Yes, that's what it means. IPB uses different table names' prefixes, so it doesn't overwrite an existing installation and allow you to run more than one board from the same database Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted March 6, 2004 Author Posted March 6, 2004 If i understand this right... Reinstalling over existing one means no need for new database. If installing from scratch, a new database is needed to be created by me in cpanel? Quote
borfast Posted March 6, 2004 Posted March 6, 2004 (edited) Think of it this way: you need a database to install IPB so... a ) If you don't have a database, then you'll need to create one. b ) If you have one available, you can install IPB and use that DB. If you want to keep your existing instalation, there's no problem because IPB uses table names' prefixes so it doesn't overwrite any existing tables on the DB. If you want to overwrite your existing instalation, all you need to do is tell IPB to use the same table names' prefix, so it will overwrite the data in the tables Edited March 6, 2004 by TCH-Raul Quote
