cPanel, the interface used to manage your site here at TCH, comes with two built-in shopping cart systems (Agora and Interchange). Upon request, you may utilize our Shared SSL for security. We do not offer merchant accounts or payment processors, so if those are necessary for your e-commerce solution then you can provide those and we will help all that we can to get it running smoothly.

Check here for more information about Agora and Interchange.

The site I recently moved here (www.DriedFlowersDirect.com) has on-line ordering and would obviously benefit from SSL.

Lianna would you please elaborate on 'upon request'.

Thank you.

Edited: oops, I just read where I was .... Pre-Sale Questions. Well I do have other sites which I maintain and I am considering moving them here too. So, maybe I am still OK???

You're fine. You are not off-topic with your questions so what does it matter which forum the questions came in? :)

To request the use of shared SSL, just drop us a help desk ticket. The use of our SSL is free with your hosting account. If you prefer to purchase your own certificate from a third-party agent, then we can install and host your certificate for a fee of $85/yr. Keep in mind, $85/year does NOT include the actual cost of the SSL Certificate as we do not sell them. It is only for installation and hosting of the certificate.

Thank you for the quick response.

What does it mean to share SSL (specifically)? I guess I really do not understand how the encryption works ... never really though about it.

I'm not the security guru here by any stretch of the imagination. But I have stumbled across a really good document by one of the leaders in the business: Verisign's Securing Your Website For Business (in pdf format)

Unless you're really into reading the nitty-gritty, skip ahead in the 32 page document to the Appendix: How Digital Certificates Work on pages 30 and 31. A very good explanation of how the encryption processes that Verisign uses protect you.

Now, Head Guru or one of the others will probably jump in here and give some more detail about how the Shared SSL here actually works and from whom our Certificate has been issued.

i will add my site to TCH at the end of the month when my present host provider contract expires.

a friend suggested PAYMENTECH.com to take payment online. thought people might like to review their site to see if it works for them.

i will take checks in the mail. real estate is slow moving and my site isn't the type to take advantage of the SSL program until I start opening offices in other cities, but that will take time to find the right people.

I just use PayPal. It's easier for me. Well, we'll see now that I will have my own site, but I used it on Ebay without a hitch. (of course now PayPal is owned by Ebay...so who knows...)
