Cross Platform Ssi?

I have inherited a site that uses ssi and has been hosted on a Windows server. I don't want to deal with setting up a Windows server in our shop, and am just wondering if there is a way to code the ssi that will work on Unix (for our dev efforts) and also on a Windows server (for when it goes back to the client).
