Password Protect Site

I am trying to figure out how to password protect my site. It is OK for anyone to get the to the index page (www.mysite.com), but after that, I want a password.

 

This would include someone trying to get to a subsequent page from the browser address bar (www.mysite.com/second_page.html).

 

Can the entire website be protected?

I would put everything in a sub-folder aside from your index page and password protect that folder using web protect in cPanel. or you can look around at sourceforge.net, they have numerous options you can use as well.
