Guest twelves Posted December 1, 2003 Posted December 1, 2003 HI! I have a script that uploads ONLY .ogg and .mp3 files. In fact it restricts all files .txt .exe .php .cgi and all illegal file characters. This is for my guitar classes and we share our progress. My Mp3 player directory requires folders to be CHMOD 777. Is that safe. and if not, can I make a .htaccess so only my player .index can access it? For the main thing, I don’t know much about online security, but its NOT possible to upload ANY files to my server but music or video. (Non commercial) So I have the directory permissions 777. Much like the famous gallery script. Thanks for the help. Want to play safe! Jay. www.12string.net Uploader is http://12string.net/phpATM/index.php (I think for moment you can upload some pdf files and other formats. But by tomorrow Ill have it only Media. Thanks for the support. And like I said, you cant upload really bad files like Php or CGI. Quote
surefire Posted December 3, 2003 Posted December 3, 2003 It's not 100% safe, no.... but nothing is. I'm looking to see if I can create (of find) a script that uploads files into databases without the need for 777 chmod. Quote
Guest twelves Posted December 4, 2003 Posted December 4, 2003 Some other popular File Scripts you may not have seen? LATE Download Abacus AlexScriptEngine Numaek Downloads PaFileDB (also very good) SimpleFileManager I dont know if any will fit your needs. There all supposed to be very good. This is the one I am using. http://12string.net/phpATM/index.php (CHMOD 777) Supposed to be safe, Has an .httacess file) My Player is: http://12string.net/modules/Mp3 (CHMOD 777) (No .htaccess file or the media players wont get the Mp3 Playlist) (Non commercial music) I am going to get to the bottom of this! If you want me to keep you in touch with my results.... Perhapse we are working on the same issue? I will let you know if I solve your problem, if I solve mine. If you want. And thanks for the advice. I know Ill find my answer. All I need to do is have a file system that will allow uploads and a remote player such as Windows Media or winamp cue the .Mp3 playlist. Ill let you know If I solve this! Jay. Quote
surefire Posted December 4, 2003 Posted December 4, 2003 yes. I would very much like to be kept in the loop of anything you find. I've found a way to get files emailed through a web form without 777 chmod (and will be releasing it on my form mail page soon) but I am thinking that the safest way would be if it were possible to save the files in a database. Maybe, maybe not. I've been short on time lately so anything you find would be a great help. I'll do the same. Quote
