I have another file question.....Is it possible to move files from one folder to another in public_html? I uploaded a lot of images, but put them in a folder other than the "images" folder. Now I would like to move them into the images folder. Is this possible? I tried drag and drop in my ftp program, but I get the little circle with the line through it when I get it over the images folder. I'd like to avoid having to upload the images again, if possible.

Thanks!

If you have an ftp program,

open two copies and select and drag from one folder on your site to another.

I tried this with mine, core ftpLITE, and it was very fast.

I am going to move this to Backend services so others will see it,

and help or learn

what ftp program are you using? im aware that some have this "move to" function.

bulletproof ftp is one - it's not free, but you can download the trial version that should last you enough time to finish moving those files.

you simply rightclick and move from "/public_html/originalfoldername/" to "/public_html/destinationfoldername/"

works like magic.

good luck!

Thank you for the help. I'm using FTP Explorer. I have been able to move files on my isp's site, so I thought I would be able to do it on TCH as well. I'll try opening it twice and see what happens. I can always just upload the pix again, but was trying to avoid spending the time on my slow dial-up! I could also look for another free FTP client or the trial version as suggested.

Thanks again.

Karen, You can also move files from one folder to another using cpanel.

Open cpanel, scroll to the bottom and click*File Manager*. In File Manager click the public_html icon. Find the file that contains your images and click that folders icon.

Now all files in that folder are listed, click the name of an image, look to the right there is a link *Move File* click it. Now in the left column again click public_html then images. That moves the file to the images folder.

You can open FTP Explorer twice, but you cannot open the "public_html" folder twice to drop and drag files.

On thing that I do a lot with FTP Explorer, is I also open a second Windows Explorer window below the FTP Explorer window and drag and drop folders and files either from Windows Explorer to FTP Explorer and visa versa.

You could create a "New Folder" in Windows Explorer and "Drag & Drop" the files from your online folders that you want to move, to the "New Folder" and than "Drag & Drop" the files back into your online "Image Folder", deleting the excess files that you have moved.

Keep in mind that your image file links will have to be renamed when you move the image files to the image folder.
