ecorse Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 Hello - A newbie question or two, both regarding setting things up in CPanel: 1) I created a new email acount "tim" for my web site www.ecorserowingclub.com; the CPanel summary of what was generated shows the email address as tim@ecorserowingclub.com (what I expected), but gives the login tim+ecorserowingclub.com. Is there some significance / reason for tacking on the web site name to my desired user name? 2) I tried to create a MySQL database called member_info, again through CPanel; the request went through successfully, but the CPanel results summary shows the database name as ecorse_memeberinfo. Ecorse is my primary user name. Could someone provide any info as to how these names are created? Thanks very much. Quote
Nicholas Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 ecorse, 1.) Your email is of course routed through a mail server. That mail server, unless on a dedicated server, is shared with other sites. If you just put the username 'tim' then everyone with the email 'tim@thierdomain.com' would get your email. That is why you attach the domain on the end of it. 2.)The reason 'ecorse' is used on mysql is basically the same concept as the email. It would be a giant mess if it wasn't used. Quote
