SEO Posted November 2, 2003 Posted November 2, 2003 SEO Thoughts: You are in Google's index and have a PageRank of 4. You have one relevant backlink 1. Get more relevant backlinks. 2. <title>: <title>Eastside church of Christ in Shortsville, New York - www.TeachUsLord.com</title> Get rid of www.TeachUsLord.com 3. <meta name="description" Visit the Eastside Church Of Christ in Shortsville, NY. We update our website with new articles every 2 weeks so come check them out. Get free Bible Courses, and more at the Eastside church of christ's website! Teachuslord.com Visitors gladly welcome!" Too long! How about: Eastside Church of Christ is located in Shortsville New York (NY) - visitors gladly welcome! 4. <meta name="keywords" These are ranked in order of importance. Therefore, you are saying that 'shortsvile', 'ny', and 'new york' are your top three phrases. I do not think this would be true, is it? Get rid of the space after each comma: shortsvile, ny, new york, ... to shortsvile,ny,new york,... 5. BIGGIE: All your internal pages should have a link back to your home page, did I miss it? Also, I would have the link entitled 'Eastside Church Home'. Non-SEO comment: I love the home page: very clean and professional. It looks like the internal pages were created by someone else... different look and 'feel'. I would mimic the look of the home page and carry it throughout the site. Make sense? Good luck! Quote
computerman Posted November 8, 2003 Author Posted November 8, 2003 Thanks for the help. I changed my pages the way you suggested except for the link back to my home page. Is that what a "backlink" is? If so I can put one on all of the pages but I don't see a need since my index is not really the main page. If it is just important for search engines to see but not for everyone else, could I just make the banner a link back to the mainpage? Thanks for your help + time. Quote
SEO Posted November 8, 2003 Posted November 8, 2003 Computerman: A 'backlink' is any page that links back to a 'site'. Now really it is linking back to a 'page' (e.g. internal pages have backlinks too). How we define a 'site' in these terms would be the index page which is and should be the most important page of a site. It should hold the most PageRank and thus pass that PageRank down throughout the site (to the internal pages). Introduction pages are a mistake... remember I am speaking in SEO (Search Engine Optimization) terms here only. Any splash, or 'Welcome' or any none informative introduction page is not a good idea. From a personal point of view, I do not like them either... one more click I have to make to 'see' what I was looking for in the first place. Hope this makes sense. Quote
