Guest Craig Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 (edited) Hi, I'm not happy with my current host (www.worria.com) and want to change. I've used TCH before in the past for customers and have been satisfied. However, for my own website, I have some special requirements and I don't know how to answer these questions. 1. Latency from PRC. My website gets 2/3 of its traffic from mainland China. There are big problems with hosting inside the PRC so I'm in Hong Kong for speed purposes. However, I'm sick of HK hosts and want to move to a host with actual customer service, instead of a guy who backs up and restores constantly and nukes all my file permissions. Is there a way to check the speed of my site from the PRC currently versus what it would be if I moved it to TCH? I'm not sure how to do this at all. 2. I have a Drupal 5 install with 15k visits/55k pageviews monthly. I know I'll be on a shared server, and I'm just concerned about performance. Drupal isn't particularly efficient and can be a hog (1000ms+ to generate a page sometimes). 3. I want to make sure that any IP or shared server I end up on is not blocked by the Great Firewall of China. If there are falun gong (or free tibet, or xinjiang separatist, or whatever) sites on the same server as me, I'm going to get blocked and obviously this is no good. TCH-Bruce Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Welcome to the forums Craig If you have access from HK you can access some of our family members sites to get an idea of speed. To get specific answers to your questions you can open a ticket with the help desk. There's a link at the top of the page or in my signature. Quote
Guest Craig Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Well, I checked a couple of sites, but many had errors or were no longer active. Most of the rest used static HTML and thus don't put any load on the server. Are there any that run Drupal? Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Sorry, I do not know which accounts may be using Drupal. Quote
