azdawg Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 I've created my first Drupal site and I'm confused about the proper addressing after updating my DNS servers. I'm unsure if this shows my Drupal ignorance or my general hosting ignorance, and I hoped someone might point me in the proper direction. During development, I used the default address provided by tch. Then, I updated the DNS servers with the proper address. You can now access the site with the correct address, but once on the site all urls reflect http://felucia.tchmachines.com/xxxx. Being a newbie, I assumed the change of the DNS servers would also update the Drupal site address. I've reviewed forum topics that seemed appropriate but I don't seem to be hitting the right mark. I did try to edit the setting.php file but that effort broke the site. So, 1. How mistaken/screwed am I? 2. What changes should I make to reflect the correct address at the site? All help is much, much appreciated. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Welcome to the forum, azdawg. With "During development, I used the default address provided by tch" I assume you used the temporary adress mentioned in your welcome email, ie something like felucia.tchmachines.com/username and not your own domain name, example.net. What you need to do is to register your own domain name if you haven´t. Then at the registrar place of this domain name, update the nameservers to point to the nameservers mentioned in your welcome email ie ns1.totalchoicehosting.com or similar. Keep in mind that propagation can take up to 72 hours. I never used Drupal but I would imagine there is a config file etc that you will need to update with your domain name instead of this temporary address. Have I understood your questions/problems correct? Quote
azdawg Posted April 17, 2008 Author Posted April 17, 2008 You have understood the situation perfectly. The problem, though, is that after updating the DNS servers with the correct address the site still shows the felucia.tchmachines.com/username etc. address on the pages. (At least it looks as if I did this process correctly.) I've checked Drupal forums and, best as I can tell, the propagation should correct the problem. I changed the DNS addresses on Monday, and the site is available from the updated address. Any chance the tch servers haven't updated? Otherwise, do the forums have a Drupal maven onboard? Again, the help is much appreciated. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 The TCH servers should have updated. Do you have a link for us (you can pm me it if you don´t want it public)? Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 I received the pm and responded, so I think a solution is close. Please let us know how it goes. Quote
