Ok so I just got an email that my account is now using over 89% of my disk allotment... I was *highly* suspicious of this because I thought I was running well under 10%. So I fire up Cpanel and sure enough, I'm using up over 89% of my disk space!

Something fishy is going on! ;)

So I delve deeper into this using Cpanel's disk usage feature (I've never used this before, its WAY cool) and was EXTREMELY surprised to see 741 MB of disk space coming from my /MAIL/CUR folder!?!?!?!? Say what? Exploring inside of /mail/cur I find countless small .05 mb files! (list only shows 4096 files and its way more than that!). The largest space allocation for any of the few email accounts I have set up is a mere 10mb, the rest are 1mb. Why are hundreds of megs of mail related files eating up my space? An example of my CPanel Disk Usage:

mail/cur/1182833102.070384.mbox:2, 0.04 Meg

... repeated a billion more times.

So heres my question before I just go blanket delete them: 1) What are these files? Are they "leaked" by the mail system somehow and not being deleted automatically? 2) Can I just delete everything in the /mail/cur folder without screwing up my email accounts? 3) How can I prevent these files from showing up again in the future?

This isnt a critical issue to get resolved ASAP, but it soon will be as my space is eaten up. I'm just happy the TCH email system lets us know when we approach our hosting plan limits :). Thanks in advance from whoever's going to answer this for me ;)

Hi DallanC, welcome to the forums :)

These are all look like unrouted emails, because you have the default set to your cpanel username.

Log into the cpanel, and go to the mail section, and set the default for unrouted email to :fail: (remembering the two colons). I would then suggest going inoto the file manager or FTP and deleting those emails (they will be nearly all spam). Alternatively open a ticket and ask us to delete them for you.

Welcome to the forum, elefante. :)

The easiest way would be to submit a ticket at the helpdesk and ask them to delete it for you. Link on top of page and in my signature.

Welcome to the forum elefante :)

As Thomas says - if you open a ticket, we'll do it for you.

You can delete them from the file manager (in cpanel) or using FTP, as well as from an email client or webmail if you prefer.
