Vancouver Lady Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Hi TCH-ers, I've searched frequently at Wordpress itself and on Google, but haven't been able to solve this problem. So I'm turning to the professionals.... When I upgraded to WP 2.1 (and still now with WP 2.2), I was no longer able to see the buttons on the Visual Editor. Here's how it should look.... And here's how it looks now... Some background: I do have "Use the Visual Editor" checked in the Profile I have disabled ALL plug-ins It doesn't matter which theme I try I AM able to see the Rich Text Editor in these same themes in a blog on another host I have re-installed all the TinyMCE files and checked to see that they are all there As I mentioned, I was able to see the Visual Editor before the last 2 WP updates At this point, I'm wondering if it's TCH-related? I'm on server 365. Thanks for your help.... Sheila Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Have you tried unchecking the box to use the visual editor and save your settings? Then resetting them? Do you have more than one user able to publish posts? Are they all set to use the visual editor? Personally I don't use the visual editor as I think it's too slow. If you have set and unset the check box and it still does not display how did you update? Did you follow the instructions for removing all the Wordpress files and folders you were supposed to remove before uploading the updates? As for it being a server issue, I would think not. Probably more to do with files not being overwritten correctly during an upgrade. That's why they say to remove them first. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Oh, the editor has nothing to do with which theme you are using. The editor is part of the admin interface which has it's own CSS. Quote

Yes, I have tried the uncheck / save / reset of Visual Editor. Did so again just now. There's only one user: me. Yup, I printed out the instructions and followed them step-by-step. There are a lot of posts at Wordpress on this issue, and only a handful of people have been able to solve it. None of their fixes have worked for me, so far. Regards, Sheila Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 I am on server 365 and if I enable the visual editor I get an editor looking like your 2nd screen shot, but if I disable it I am getting one that looks pretty close to your 1st screen shot. So no TCH related problem as far as I can see. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 I am not sure what the issue may be other than files not getting copied correctly to the server during an update. Here is how I update my Wordpress installations. Please make a backup first! 1. Download the zip file from Wordpress 2. Extract the zip file into a folder on my computer 3. I remove the wp-config file from the folder 4. Zip the contents inside the "wordpress" folder extracted from the downloaded zip file 5. Open File Manager from cPanel and remove the wp-admin and wp-includes folders 6. Remove all the php files except wp-config.php from the blog folder 7. Upload my re-packaged zip file into my blog folder 8. Extract my re-packaged zip file 9. Launch my broswer and go to http://my-blog-address/wp-admin/upgrade.php and follow the prompts. You may want to give that a try. When done remove the repackaged zip file from your blog folder. Quote
