gilk Posted May 27, 2007 Posted May 27, 2007 I really have a mess in my site, and I wish to make an overall. The situation is, that I started a few years ago to build my family site with "Front-page". then I added forums, and galleries, and then some sub-domains, and then I learned about CMS, and applied "Joomla" for different issues, and now, I wish to have my site built with Joomla as the main page, with links from there to existing sub-domains, including the actual site I had from the beginning. but! I can't start a new joomla installation from the root directory due to the fact that public_html exists! :-) )-: and I don't wish to lose all that has been done all this years. So, I thought, to start a new Joomla installation on a new sub-directory under public_html, just as I thought to do, and the only issue left is - how to direct the traffic so that when the URL is my domain name, it will go to that sub-directory ??? TCH-Thomas Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 2 options as I see it: 1) Remove the stuff in the public_html (root) and move the joomla site to it, or 2) Redirect subdiretory to the root as described below. Here is what I do... 1) Build your joomla site in a subdirectory 2) Log in to cpanel 3 Go to Redirects section 4) In "Add Redirect´s first field enter the subdirectory, so it says http://yourtchdomain.com/subdirectorysname 5) In the other field, enter yourtchdomain.com 6) Choose if the redirect is temporary or permanent and click add. 7) Now when people go to yourtchdomain.com, they will be redirected to yourtchdomain.com/subdirectorysname and you canclean your root without people seeing it and eventually if you want you can remove the redirect and move the joomla installation to the root. If things doesn´t become what you want, you can always delete the redirect. Quote
