5.1 Audio In Xp

ok bought some altec lansing 5.1 speakers today.

i have a 5.1 soundcard, nice

a Realtek HD i think (came with my pc - a HP)

 

so i plug the right plugs in the right bits, and set the speakers in. when i get windows to do the little test speaker by speaker they are not what they say they are, say a rear speaker will sound the sub.

 

and myspace plays music from the rear

but media player plays it from the front

Home Cinema uses all the speakers?

 

anyone have a clue why its all different and annoying

everything is connected and according to the books

 

edit - could this be since some things will only play in stereo, so only surround sound things will use all speakers?

Could be the software player you are using or the format of the music. See if this explains it.
