BoxersRule Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 I'm desperately trying to download the files from my old server via SSH to my computer with the thought of uploading them to TCH with FTP. I thought it was a pretty good plan since nothing else seems to work. I should have known better. I'm using SmartFTP. I have ftp.server ip - myusername in the address thingy, have entered my password, made sure the port is 21 and IT WON'T WORK. I get this msg: [16:44:58]Cannot login waiting to retry (30s)...[16:45:28] Continue to login attempt 11... [16:45:28] Resolving host name "ftp.72.18.130.123" ARRGGHHHH! a suggestion... get more MAD emoticons. I really would like to smack all those happy faces grinning at me from the list. What am I doing wrong? Quote
TCH-Tim Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 Just use the server IP, don't put ftp. in front of it. So: 72.18.130.123 Quote

BoxersRule Posted June 6, 2006 Author Posted June 6, 2006 (edited) IT WORKED!!! WOOHOOO!!! At least I see the server. Uploading might be whole 'nuther issue! Thanks guys! Edited to say: I'm UPLOADING!!! YEEHAAAA!! Edited June 6, 2006 by BoxersRule Quote
TCH-Don Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 Use the same way to upload to your site here with the ip in your welcome e-mail if your domain name has not been pointed here yet. A tip; Zip up your fourm to a zip file I like to put the files in a folder on my computer with the same name as it will need on my site like forum then zip up the folder forum upload the zip file to the public_html folder on my site then in cpanel > file manager goto public_html folder by clicking on the folder icon click on the zip file name and on the right select extract the folder forum will be created and the files will be extracted inside of the folder forum. Its faster to upload a single compressed file than many small ones. Quote
