How To Incorporate Sms/text Messaging Subscription

Really not sure where to ask this... but here goes...

 

I am planning a new site for myself and want to include a feature that allows fans to subscribe to my email newsletter, but also to enter in their Mobile number and Instant Messenger ID's to get Text messages.

 

I am using Dada mail right now and that is great for emails, but I'd love to find something that allows me to send these messages via email, IM and Mobile network.

 

Where would one find out about such a thing?

The only thing they don't have that I would like is Instant Messenger input.

 

Is there such an application or script that would allow me to facilitate this sort of thing?

 

How do these instant SMS subscriptions work?

That link provided some interesting info. Looks like one has to subscribe to some kind of SMS service to be able to impliment what I am talking about. I am still fuzzy on all of it and am looking into it some more.

 

If anyone has any firsthand knowledge of companies that do this, please respond here or PM me.

Cool Thomas. Once I figure out how it all works and the new site is release I will let you know about it.

I am still trying to find services that handle the Messaging etc.

You'll need to subscribe to a service that has agreements with several mobile operators. That service should provide you with an SMS gateway through which you can send your text messages. A Google search for 'SMS gateway' will probably provide you with some answers. If you have a dedicated server, you can also have your own SMS gateway but that's a bit more complicated, given that you need to use SMS centers from other operators.
