smoochdog Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 Hi there - I use TCH to host a simple little blog that I have that I use as a journal type thingy. I have asked for backups once or twice and they have been done very graciously and quickly problem is I have no idea where they are. Is there a way I can get a copy of just my entries? Is this something I can do myself? I would rather not since I am a like a bull in a china shop around databases I always muck something up. If anyone can explain my options to me that would be great thanks! Quote
stevevan Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 If you gave us the blog name, some family members would have a better idea on what to do. (Moved to Blog forum for better exposure). Quote

TCH-Andy Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 OK, that's a Movable Type blog. You can backup the mySQL database to keep everything, which you can then restore at any point if there is an issue. I'm not an MT user myself, but there is probably a backup you can do from within MT - I'm sure someone will be along with an answer to that. Quote
TCH-Tim Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 I don't use MT anymore, but I recall an "Export" function that dumps all of your entries into a text(?) file. I imagine if you exported your entries from MT in this way, you could import them back in if you had to. Quote
TCH-Tim Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 From the manual, here are instructions for doing backup/restore of your MySQL database using phpMyAdmin. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 It is not necessary to dump your entries with the Export function within MT. That is primarly for moving your MT entries to another blogging platform. I'd use the mySQL database backup provided in cPanel. Quote
