Bernie van Niekerk Posted October 12, 2005 Posted October 12, 2005 Hi, I recently asked TCH to move my account (with an MT installation in it) from server 101 to server 90. From Starter Hosting to Reseller All other installations seem to work ok (e.g. Vbulletin) but I am not able to log into the MT Publishing platform. I've been in touch with Six Apart and, though helpful, they don't seem to have any solution at the moment I was wondering if it didn't have someting to do with the fact that the 2 servers are perhaps setup differently? Thanks Bernie Quote
TweezerMan Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 Assuming the migration was performed correctly and without incident, the only issue I know of that might affect an MT installation would be DNS caching / propogation. A specific error message (whatever is displayed in the browser, or recorded in the web server error log) would help a lot in tracking down the source of the problem. Quote

Thanks David, Nothing mentioned by support staff about migration issues. All my other apps: e.g. Vbulletin working well. The Blog site istself is running fine, so I assume the Propogation is OK. No defined errors in the browser: It only says "Invalid Login" Nothing in error logs. Whats interesting to me is the fact that when MT support went into the database, they did not find my latest authors but only earlier ones that I had created months before... Initially, MY MT installation was running on Server 90(RESELLER). Then it was moved to 101 (STARTERHOSTING) about 6 months ago (because of e-mail restrictions on 90). It was then moved back again to 90 this week because I could not add on subdomains... In this interim period there was an MT installation on 90 (OLD) and it seems to me that after the xfer that: 1. All the articles etc moved across properly but 2. The user rights remained as they were 6 months ago Is this possible? Quote
TweezerMan Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 It sounds like, at a minimum, maybe the mt_author table in the old server 90 database did not get replaced with a new copy from the server 101 database when your account was migrated back to server 90. Is it possible? Yes. It's not something that is supposed to happen though. If you have a backup of your MT database from when your account was on server 101, you could try copying out the queries just for the mt_author table and running them on your server 90 database to restore the table to what it should be. You could also submit a ticket to the Help Desk, explaining that your database does not appear to be completely copied over from server 101 and see if they can try to copy it again (assuming it's still present on server 101). Bernie van Niekerk Posted October 13, 2005 Author Posted October 13, 2005 Wow! Thanks for coming back so soon . I have checked the mt-author table and it seems like the authors / permissions came across ok. It looks like the passwords in the table are scrambled.. Anyway I will do as you say with regards to copying the queries... By the way I ran Mt-Check.cgi and go the following: "DBD::Pg (version >= 1.32) Either your server does not have DBD::Pg installed, the version that is installed is too old, or DBD::Pg requires another module that is not installed. DBI and DBD::Pg are required if you want to use the PostgreSQL database backend. Please consult the installation instructions for help in installing DBD::Pg. DBD::SQLite Your server does not have DBD::SQLite installed, or DBD::SQLite requires another module that is not installed. DBI and DBD::SQLite are required if you want to use the SQLite database backend. Please consult the installation instructions for help in installing DBD::SQLite." Does the above errors make any difference? By the way, where do I find the queries you spoke about. I have been looking at the tables using phpmyadmin in Cpanel You were right...! The MT Author table did not copy across correctly! How do I move the old to the new? Thanks Bernie You were right...! The MT Author table did not copy across correctly! TweezerMan Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 The passwords in the mt_author table are 'hashed', which could be described as 'scrambled'. This is normal. DBD::Pg and DBD::SQLite are the Perl modules necessary for using PostgreSQL and SQLite, respectively, for your MT database. Since you're using MySQL for your MT database, you do not need these modules and you can safely ignore these warnings. The queries I was referring to would be in a MySQL database backup you made of your MT database while it was on server 101. If you don't have a MySQL database backup from server 101, I think your best bet would be to enlist assistance from the Help Desk. If your data is still present on server 101, the Help Desk should be able to re-copy your database over again. If your data is no longer present on server 101, the Help Desk may be able to retrieve a copy of your database from a recent server 101 backup. If you still have access to your account on server 101, you could perform a backup (export) of the MT database yourself with phpMyAdmin, download it to your PC, then restore (import) it on server 90 with phpMyAdmin. If the database backup is too large, you can upload the server 101 database backup to your account on server 90 then ask the Help Desk to restore it. The ability to do this depends on whether 1) you still have access to your account on server 101, and 2) your MT database has not yet been deleted from server 101. Hope this helps... Quote

Thanks David, sure it will. Still have the old database on 101 Cheers Bernie Quote
