Mae Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 This will be my first website. I'm in the infant stage of development. I'm looking at your company because you indicated that you support Frontpage. If I'm using Frontpage, can I anticipate any problems? Do you provide telephone support? If you don't have telephone support, do you have live chat support 24 hours a day? Can you explain to me how I would go about uploading my website? Do you have a place on your forums where I could ask "dummy" questions about Frontpage? I'm still learning... I saw another post that you support adult sites. My site is a classroom site that would have a link to my school and school district. Will my site get blocked through their filters? Do you set up auto pay for each month, and if you do, can I work it out to hit my account during a certain time period? If I want a domain name, should I register for the domain name first and sign up for hosting next? Can I do it at the same time? This may sound like a dumb question to you techies, but, how do I edit pages once my site is up and running (or add new pages)? Please be patient, I'm on the learning curve here (the bottom end of it). How do I know which package is right for me? I can see my site exploding into 100-200 pages once I get everything on it + I would eventually like to add PowerPoints (available for download for teachers). Currently, I would consider this a personal website, but eventually, I want it to become a commercial site (I write, present, etc.). Is there something different that you need to do between personal and commercial or does it even matter? I have one big problem that I want to solve before I sign up - links. Maybe you techie folks can help me (it's probably one of those duh things). My links between pages keep breaking. I fix them. I save them. They work. And then they break again. It's driving me crazy. I don't feel comfortable uploading to the WWW until I understand (and fix) this problem. I'm using Frontpage 2000. I click on the item that I want to act as a link (small graphic button w/text). I click on hyperlink. I click on the place I want it to go. I click ok. It works, and then later on everything breaks again. This question may be above and beyond - but I imagine it would indicate your level of service (or not). Thank you for your resposes. As I said, I am NEW at this. My Frontpage for Dummies book and I are building this website. Please be patient and please answer in less than technical terms. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 (edited) Hi and Welcome to the forum. This will be my first website. I'm in the infant stage of development. I'm looking at your company because you indicated that you support Frontpage. If I'm using Frontpage, can I anticipate any problems? I don´t use Frontpage myself, but I have understood that there is no problem using it at TCH. Do you provide telephone support? If you don't have telephone support, do you have live chat support 24 hours a day? For billing issues, yes. For technical issues, you will need to use any of the following options here, preferrably the help desk which is staffed 24/7. Please note that the helpdesk can not help you with any 3rd party scripts, you will need to contact the author or respective scripts forum or ask in this forum. There are plenty of people willing to help you. Can you explain to me how I would go about uploading my website? Since I don´t use Frontpage myself, I will have to let someone else answer this. Do you have a place on your forums where I could ask "dummy" questions about Frontpage? I'm still learning... Right this way please. I saw another post that you support adult sites. My site is a classroom site that would have a link to my school and school district. Will my site get blocked through their filters? This should not be any problem, but I will have to let some one answer this. Do you set up auto pay for each month, and if you do, can I work it out to hit my account during a certain time period? I believe there is an monthly payment option for the shared hosting, as for what time they will "hit" your account, I think it is done on the first each month, but I can be wrong on this. If I want a domain name, should I register for the domain name first and sign up for hosting next? Can I do it at the same time? I would register the domain name first, one place to that is here. This may sound like a dumb question to you techies, but, how do I edit pages once my site is up and running (or add new pages)? Please be patient, I'm on the learning curve here (the bottom end of it). Please see the Frontpage forum. How do I know which package is right for me? I can see my site exploding into 100-200 pages once I get everything on it + I would eventually like to add PowerPoints (available for download for teachers). You can upgrade/downgrade at anytime, so I would go with the package I think would be suitable and then see. Currently, I would consider this a personal website, but eventually, I want it to become a commercial site (I write, present, etc.). Is there something different that you need to do between personal and commercial or does it even matter? Not that I know. There are plenty of people willing to help you. Any problem you might have, I am sure there is someone who can solve it for you. Hope this helps, and if you wonder anything else, please ask. Edited June 20, 2005 by TCH-Thomas Quote
TCH-Don Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 Welcome to the forum Mae Support is for server related issues or account problems. It would be very hard for them to be familiar with all the different programs for creating web sites or the scripts you can install. It is our responsibility to know how to create, upload and maintain our sites. However we all had to start somewhere as newbies. thats why we have this user forum where we can help each other. There is a Frontpage forum where you can get more help on FP I do not use it, so I am no help. There is a phone number for billing problems on the main web site under Support > Contact Us also a help site with more FP info. You can have auto pay per month, but I think the date will be when you sign up. I would get the domain name first, then get the account for that domain. As far as what plan, you can start with one plan and later open a help desk ticket (link at top of page) to ask to be upgraded to a higher plan. It does not matter what you use the site for as long as it does not violate the TOS or Aup (terms of use and Acceptable use policy) found on the home page under about us. Hope fully this helps and others will help answer you other questions. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 Welcome to the forums Mae. Thomas and Don pretty well answered your questions. Quote
stevevan Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 Welcome to the forums. Read through the help site tutorials and if you still have questions, ask away in the Frontpage forum. There are several family members who either use FP or have used FP (myself included). The only dumb question is the one not asked. So ask away! Quote
