Some where I have lost OutLook Express in that I get the message that 8007007E. 126

MSOE.DLL can not initialize

The method that I want to use is below: I do not want to reinstall XP since it is the sony version. I don't want to do that.

[start] [Run] [Regedit]

Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{44BBA840-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C}

Modify/Create the Value Data Type(s) and Value Name(s) as detailed below.

Data Type: DWORD // Value Name: IsInstalled

Setting for Value Data: [Change the Value from 1 to 0]

Exit Registry

[start] [Run] [Regedit]

Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}

Ok I did the above but when I try to install IE6 it says that I have a newer version and closes. The one thing I have not done is to delete the files and try to reinstall.

I guess your method came from this MSKB article? In the article, assuming you're running Windows XP SP2, the only method offered to repair IE6 and Outlook Express is to reinstall SP2. The method you describe only applies to Windows XP and Windows XP SP1.

If that still didn't solve the problem I'd head back to Method I and do a complete reinstall of XP. It's still my contention that piling fixes and repairs onto a damaged operating system is just postponing the inevitable reformat.

And I tend to agree. More and more I find systems that I can't repair and end up going back to a complete re-install anyway :)

:wallbash: turtle waves hi to David :P

Long time David, good to see you here.

On mine, an e-machine you can do a non distructive install, that keeps the registry

so you do not lose any setting or programs and data.

Do you have that option?
