jerME Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 (edited) I'm sure this has been posted and answered before but I can't find anything in my searches that is exactly my situation. I have had an account for a long time and have had few problems. However, over the last few months POP3 email (incoming) will quit working for long periods at a time. Webmail will continue to work. After awhile, it will all of the sudden start working again. This is from multiple locations / multiple ISPs. So it seems to be on the server end since it happens from multiple locations at the same time. The error is: "Unable to connect to the server. (Account: mail.<domainname>.com', POP3 Server: mail.<domainname>.com', Error Number: 0x800ccc0e)." It seems most of the posts talk about sending mail but I use my ISP mail server for sending mail because they do block port 25. Any ideas? Edited June 10, 2005 by jerME Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 Have you tried using the IP number of your domain? Just offering something to try. As for sending, if you want to send through your domain just change the port to 26 and set your client to authenticate before sending. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 Sorry, where are my manners? Welcome to the forums jerME Another thing you may want to do when you cannot receive mail is run a tracert and see if the problem is somewhere between you and the server. Quote
TCH-Don Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 Welcome to the forums, jerME As you say webmail continues to work it would not seem to be a server problem. I have seen that error message discussed before and it would usually be anti-virus program or firewall. Not sure if that will help, but something to look at. Quote
stevevan Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 Welcome! I've experienced that problem at times and can relate it to a routing error. (I checked the last few times it's happened.) Since I travel around quite a bit for work, I use many different providers, so I see it a lot more than the average home user. I usually wait for a few minutes and it goes away...automagically! Quote
jerME Posted June 11, 2005 Author Posted June 11, 2005 OK. I'll do a tracert next time it happens and see what results I get. Today for example, it didn't work for about 10+ hours and all of the sudden it is working again. I am on Comcast in one city and my dad is on TimeWarner in another city and we have the problems at the same time so I'll have him tracert too. I'll post the results here when it happens again. Thanks. Quote
