This is a little bit of a twist on some of the other posts (I think). I am considering upgrading to a reseller account to host separate domains (not subdomains) that are not connected to each other, but I don't want to set up another instance of Movable type.

Can this be done? How does this work, would I end up setting up a new blog in a new directory and point the new domain at it, or is it more complicated than that? I don't want the domains to mix at all.

Or is the best option to create a new instance of Movable Type altogether.

Thanks for any assistance!

While it's possible to do it with one installation, it would be simpler to create a new instance of Movable Type especially if you don't want the domains to mix at all.

Movable Type can handle multiple blogs but they are all stored in the same database.

Excellent - thanks for the quick response!

From the TCH perspective, then, if I just want one more domain set up, does it matter whether I set up a new account or get a reseller account? Is there any advantage to either approach? I think the new account option is cheaper and cleaner, yes?

Depends on your size requirements. Usually with a blog you wouldn't need more then the Starter or Basic plans. Those plans are only $4 or $5 a month, and the lowest cost reseller plan is $20. So if you are only hosting two domains the individual accounts would save you money. ;)

Welcome to the forums, Just-Ted! :)

As Bruce said, MT can handle multiple blogs, even with different domains, as long as all of the blogs and domains are on the same server.

Sine you don't want the domains to "mix" at all, I'd recommend separate MT installations though. If the blogs are all on one install of MT, the blogs themselves would be separate, but URLs to your comments and trackbacks (mt-comments.cgi and mt-tb.cgi scripts) will point at the one domain that MT is installed on. The only way to avoid this is to install MT on each domain.
