Mazie Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 The site that I'm managing was created by someone else. It contains asp for a photo gallery and I can't get it to work. Suggestions? Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 Are you trying to make the .asp pages work here on the TCH servers? If so, that's not going to work if your site is on a Linux server. Quote

I'm editing the pages in Frontpage and Dreamweaver depending on what the original developer used. Thanks Quote

Mazie Posted April 20, 2005 Author Posted April 20, 2005 Obviously not too familiar with how this forum works ;-} Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 If you are working on the domain listed in your profile you are on server 79 which is a Linux server. TotalChoice has just started offering Windows servers and they are dedicated servers. Quote
Mazie Posted April 20, 2005 Author Posted April 20, 2005 Got it. So, do I request to be moved to a windows server? If so, how is that done? Quote
TCH-Don Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 Welcome to the form mazie With the exception of a dedicated windows server all the servers are Linux. You can see in your cpanel under General server information: Operating system Linux Quote
Mazie Posted April 20, 2005 Author Posted April 20, 2005 As I understand you, all TCH servers are now Linux and therefore do not support asp? The strange part of that to me is that the site was here when I assumed the maintenance and the asp pages were working??? So, if I can't use the asp to link a gallery, do you have any suggestions on what I could use? Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 Got it. So, do I request to be moved to a windows server? If so, how is that done? I'm not sure which plan you are currently on but the Windows servers are dedicated servers and priced differently as you are the only user on the machine. To request to purchase a dedicated server and have your account transferred you will need to open a Help Desk ticket (link above) to support. Quote
Mazie Posted April 20, 2005 Author Posted April 20, 2005 Thanks for all your help. I'm not sure the company wants to go to a pricer server and as I said, the asp links were working ... but maybe the company changed the plan before I took over the maintenance. Guess I'll figure out a way to use some other program to link a gallery of photos. Any suggestions? Could I do it with HTML? Sounds like a lot of coding to do it that way. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 I would look at Coppermine or Gallery. Both are PHP based and run fine on the servers here. Quote
Mazie Posted April 20, 2005 Author Posted April 20, 2005 Thanks bunches. Maybe I can get that part of the site working now. Quote
Deverill Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 Another tool I've started using is Picassa which Google just aquired. If you have a bunch of photos and want to make a web page "gallery" it will do it automatically for you. If your photos change a lot it may be worth going to a PHP solution like Coppermine but if they don't then I find it much easier to just pick the photos in Picassa and answer a couple of questions about it and let it make an HTM page for me. An example of this is at covenantwordchurch.org/Trips/Jerusalem%202005/Jerusalem%202005/index.html Disclaimer: This is a page from a site I manage for a church. If religious items bother you then don't go there. They are photos of my pastor's visit to Jerusalem. Quote
Mazie Posted April 23, 2005 Author Posted April 23, 2005 Thanks, Jim. That might be a great solution to get the current pics to show up for now and then look at Coppermine for future use. I appreciate the response. Quote
