John Carney Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 I've gotten bits and pieces of the answer to this around the forum, but I want to make sure I understand the whole picture. Currently, I have a web site and a domain name hosted with another firm (1and1). I would like to move both the site and the domain name to TCH, in part because your inexpensive plans offer PHP and their least-expensive plan doesn't. I've only had my domain name since last May, and so a lot of this is still new to me. What I would like to do, if it's possible, is buy a hosting package from TCH first, and then work on setting up my new site. My current blog at the old host uses Blogger, but I would like to set up my new blog (and perhaps the whole site) using the software WordPress. That may take a few days to set up, especially since I've never used WordPress or PHP before. So it's not just a matter of transferring my old site files to the new server. So my question is, can I buy a hosting package, spend a few days or a week setting things up, and then -- after everything is ready to go -- transfer my domain name? Please excuse me if this is a stupid question or if I've missed the answer to it elsewhere. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 Welcome to the forums, John. Yes you can. When you purchase the hosting you are required to enter the domain name you will be using so just enter your current domain name there. Your welcome email will contain information and an IP address to access your site to set it up and test. Once it's working you can either transfer the domain here or you can change the domain name servers it is pointing to and you'll be able to access your site using your domain name. Quote
TCH-Don Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Welcome to the Family John and your new home! We really are like family here. So if you need anything, just ask your new family! We love to help Quote
