Phpbb Install

I have hosting with TCH and a phpbb forum, I made a subdomain and I'm trying to install a phpbb test forum since we're all new to phpbb and dont want to mess the good forun up, I've uploaded all the phpbb files and done the yourhost.com/phpbb/install/install.php thing and the page came up, now I'm stuck, it ask for a Database Server Hostname / DSN: , no clue what that would be for a subdomain, also it ask for a database name, << no idea either. And it asks for a database name and pass, would I put my cpanel name and pass there?

For most database scripts you do the following:

after you create the database and user

and add uer to database in cpanel>MySql

 

then you need to add something like this for your config.

Host: localhost

Database Name: cpanelname_databasename

Username: cpanelname_username

Password: password

 

Although you can also install additional phpbb in cpanel > addon scripts

Thanks for welcoming me, glad to know theres a forum out there where people are actually friendly.

 

I do the add-on scripts and just names the phpbb as www.myhostname.com/testforum and it works fine. i feel like a jacka&& now, all this trouble and it was as simple as that.

No problem,

but it might be worth the trouble to install a script the hard way for the experiance.

Then when you run into another script you will know what to do.

So for now look at the comfig file to see what was used and look in cpanel > MySql to see the database cpanel created.

And just as a FYI, you can use your cpanel username and password to access any database you create, regardless of having created a database user and it being assigned to the database or not. But I wouldn't recommend it, because if someone manages to break into your account and reads the configuration files where the username and password are stored, they will not only gain access to your database but they will also gain access to your whole account.

 

Edit: well, if they'd break into your account they'd already have access to your account, so...
