webgyrl Posted January 17, 2005 Posted January 17, 2005 Just a question about backing up my phpbb board. When I do a general 'site backup' via cPanel, does my phpbb board get totally backed up? Is there a way to ensure a complete backup of all settings and posts? When I try to back the board up in the phpbb admin all I get is an empty SQL file. Thanks in advance. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted January 17, 2005 Posted January 17, 2005 I´m not sure since I never had any need to back up a forum, but I think you will need to use the "Download a MySQL Database Backup" in cpanel. Quote
OldTimer Posted January 17, 2005 Posted January 17, 2005 I just started playing around with phpBB, but this may help you out. http://www.phpbb.com/support/guide/#section3_2_1 Complete users guide here: http://www.phpbb.com/support/guide/ Greg Quote

One way to ensure is to decompress the backup file you get (after downloading it) and check the mysql folder. You should have a file named yourusername_yourphpbbdatabasename.sql. If you open this file, you'll see all the MySQL queries necessary to recreate the threads / forums / settings / etc of your board. Quote
TCH-Don Posted January 17, 2005 Posted January 17, 2005 Nat if you goto cpanel > backup and download the Home Backup that compressed file contains your entire site except databases and e-mail filters and alias which you can also download on the same backup page. Then if you need to upload a database you can do it in the same place. You could also upload the home backup to restore all files or with a compression (zip) file manager you can make a copy of the home backup and remove all but the forum to restore just the forum. kitsch Posted January 17, 2005 Posted January 17, 2005 Sorry for the (partial) misinformation. I edited my post above. I hope it's OK now. Quote
TCH-Don Posted January 17, 2005 Posted January 17, 2005 I did not see anything wrong with your post. For me the full backup has not been of any use since there is no handy place to upload it for me. Quote
