Noctorum Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 Are these reseller accounts? and Whats the differance between limited, and 100% managed? ty ~Alex Quote
borfast Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 The semi-dedicated is basically a very large reseller account. You don't have root access or anything else you don't get with a regular reseller account. Only more hard disk space and bandwidth. As for the difference between unmanaged and 100% managed servers, in an unmanaged server, TCH installs the operating system and necessary server software, configures it and from there it's up to you. You're the one who has to install security updates, extra software, etc. In a 100% managed solution, TCH does it all for you. Hope this helps Quote
Noctorum Posted January 10, 2005 Author Posted January 10, 2005 It does One more question though, in the 100% managed option, do I still have the ability to install security updates and extra software? ~Alex Quote
borfast Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 Yes, you do. You have root access, you can do whatever you want One note, though. I think I may have explained myself poorly in the previous post: I'm not sure if TCH keeps your 100% managed server up to date with the latest security updates. What I meant is that TCH will take care of things for you if you ask for something to be done. But I'll ask someone to confirm this Quote
Noctorum Posted January 10, 2005 Author Posted January 10, 2005 I have no problem doing that on my own if need be. Thanks ~Alex Quote
borfast Posted January 11, 2005 Posted January 11, 2005 Alex, sorry for taking so long to reply. My ISP had a major problem in my area, yeasterday. I lost internet connectivity at around 3:00 PM and it only came back this morning. As for the dedicated server question, Mike Jones (TCH-MikeJ) refreshed my memory about it and yes, TCH will take care of installing security patches for the standard packages. Anything else you install has to be maintained by you. One other thing Mike reminded me about is that TCH is currently not taking orders for dedicated servers. At least as far as both him and I heard. But the best you can do is request a dedicated account and you'll hear back from the higher department Quote
