Hi,

I have a couple of questions before I go ahead and move my site http://powerfoundation.org to your hosting company.

1) after I move over to you, can people access my site without having to use the "www" prefix? I don't know if things have changed since I first started my page, but it used to be that certain hosting companies could offer an account whereby anyone could simply type the domain name into any browser (i.e., "powerfoundation.org") and the page would appears. With others, you had to type "www.powerfoundation.org" for anything to appear.

2) Can you give me a quick guide as to how I transfer my site you? I own the domain and it's currently hosted by Affinity Hosting. But I want to move over to you guys as I'm trying to get set up to host a Movable Type weblog. How do I actually conduct the transfer, and will there be downtime in terms of email access and site access?

Please advise on both of these questions.

Thanks!

Hi,

1. You can either use your domain name with, or without the www. - both will work.

2.

- step one is to purchase the hosting here

- if it is currently hosted on a cpanel server, open a ticket at our help desk (link attop of page) and ask us to transfer it (we will need the cpanel info for your old account as well as your new one).

- If it is not hosted using cpanel, then you will need to backup your site, and then restore it here.

- Check that your site looks fine, and set up email accounts.

- Change the DNS to our nameservers (info will be in your welcome email)

That's about all there is to it :)

As a sidenote - inside my college's network, I can't access many sites without the 'www' (such as petco.com and heck, smith.edu). The second I'm on a "normal" network I can leave out the 'www'. It's only inside this one. It's an anomoly that I am not totally sure I understand. Probably something with regexps and firewalls, and I find it incredibly annoying.

But at the same time, I can access MY site with or without the 'www'. So I can say this is not a TCH thing (the above sites are not hosted with TCH), bur rather something that may be effected by the network someone is on, and it's something to bear in mind. =)
