mark1e Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 Hi guys - New to all this Invision stuff, but it does seem really easy to use - obviously so easy that I'm totally stuck. I want to change the blue (Invision) logo for my own, I've been to HTML Templates within Skins & templates, dug out the Board Header HTML within Global Elements, and even found the (img src)logo4.gif, but I am unsure what to do next. If I enter my own logo link, then go 'update templates' I get an error message saying "Cannot write into './Skin/s1/skin_global.php', please check the CHMOD value, and if needed, CHMOD to 0777 via FTP. IBF cannot do this for you" What does this mean - how do I FTP? I read a FAQ on this site that says you right click on the logo, select properties and then replace this with your img link, but when you right click on the logo, you cannot change the properties? Anybody like to throw some tips in the direction of this neeeeewwwwwbie??? Appreciated Mark Rock Sign Quote

mark1e Posted December 6, 2004 Author Posted December 6, 2004 Bruce, thanks for the reply - thats the FAQ I looked at, but its not that clear! right click your board logo, select properties to see the path to the 'logo.jpg'replace it with yours, keeping it the same height. - means what in laymans terms!? If I right click my board logo, I can select properties, but I cant alter anything! Am I being dumb!>? Also, how do I change permissions via FTP? I have FTP software (Smat FTP), but I cant seem to log into to the board!? Even if i could I wouldnt be sure what to do! I'm a a bit of a Frontpage Fool!!! lol And!!!....................just to edit my post further - How do I log into the board via FTP? I've tried my board username and password, but its not happening! TCH-Thomas Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 Hi and welcome Mark, I dont use either smart ftp or frontpage so I cant help you much on that specific question, but usually in a ftp program when you have entered the apporopriate folder in your ftp account is that you highlight the file that you need to change permission on, right click and select "properties" and there enter the appropriate permission, 755, 777 etc. Then click apply and disconnect. As for the quote, I really am not sure what the author ment but I havent read the thread Bruce found yet ) Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 right click your board logo, select properties to see the path to the 'logo.jpg'replace it with yours, keeping it the same height. - means what in laymans terms!? If I right click my board logo, I can select properties, but I cant alter anything! Bring up your forum. With the mouse right-click on the Invision logo and select properties. It will show you the path to the file logo.jpg. Now create your image that you want to replace their image with. Name it logo.jpg If you don't know how to use the FTP program to log in that's fine. You can use the cPanel FileManager program to upload the logo.jpg file. Open FileManager in cPanel. Browse to the location (folder) for the logo.jpg file you found when you right clicked and looked at the properties above. Quote
mark1e Posted December 7, 2004 Author Posted December 7, 2004 guys, please help I am still having trouble with this!! Its driving me nuts. I have read the FAQ, I dont know how to FTP, as i'm not sure what username and password to enter OR the address of the site. I am still getting the error message Cannot write into './Skin/s1/skin_csite.php', please check the CHMOD value, and if needed, CHMOD to 0777 via FTP. IBF cannot do this for you. when I try to mod the html within 'Skins & Templates' - 'HTML Templates' - 'Manage HTML' then either selecting 'Global HTML Elements' or 'IP Dynamic lite'. What is this 'File Manager' in Cpanel you are talking about? I reckon if someone could help me with FTP I could do it. Thanks for all your help so far Mark Mad!!! Quote
TCH-Don Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 (edited) You will find it easier to modify the files with an ftp program You can try out CoreFTP for free at coreftp.com here is a thread with a screen shot showing how to set up CoreFTP Lite using you cpanel user name and password. this will give you two windows, the left one showing your computer and the right one showing your web space. Navigate to the folder on your web space where the logo is. On the left window navigate to the logo you created and named logo.jpg click on your logo and right click and select upload It will replace the default logo.jpg. For the other files you can find where they are on your web space forum and drag them to the left window to put them on your computer where you can modify them and then put the modified version back. You may find this easier than trying to change them in the forums edit screens. however if you want to use the forum edit screens, find the file you want to edit on your forum and right click it to change the properties to 777 so you can edit it in the forums edit screen. be sure to change the properties back after. As to file manager, it is part of your cpanel and will launch a file manager showing your web space. It will start above your public_html folder where you put your files you need to click on the folder icon in front of the public_html name to go inside, do the same to go into your forum folders and when you find a file that you want to change the permissions so you can write to it from the forums edit screens, click on the file name, and on the right you will see options including change permissions. But I strongly recommend you try the ftp program as it is easier and more reliable. I re wrote the first part of the thread on changing your logo, hopefully it is more understandable now. if you have more questions, please ask, our family love to help Edited December 7, 2004 by TCH-Don Quote
