bgolder Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 Hello - I just ordered WHL hosting support. I also have a new DSL provider. My ISP provides me with 5 static IP addresses. Some of my files and servers will have to be hosted from my office on my DSL line. I am doing this remote hosting stuff for the first time, so please bear with me. Prior to having a remote hosting service that was separate from my ISP, I could easily map subdomains of my domain to specific static IP addresses provided by my ISP. My question is - can I still do this IP mapping when I'm hosting my domain with TCH? And additionally, can I map subdomains to specific IP's and specific ports - for example: ftp.**** - 1.2.3.4:21 (ftp server) www2.**** - 1.2.3.4:80 (same IP - web server) Lastly, do I do this IP configuration myself with the control panel, or do I request these IP mappings with a tech support ticket? Thanks. Quote
TCH-Rob Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 I dont know exactly how far you can go with this but I would open a ticket. They will guide you in the proper direction. Oh, welcome home too. Quote
bgolder Posted November 12, 2004 Author Posted November 12, 2004 >dont know exactly how far you can go with this but.... Rob, thanks for the welcome! I think I should ask a "big picture" question here. Is TCH a place for just hosting web sites, or is it a place for hosting all aspects of a domain? Until now, it didn't really occur to me that there might be a difference in such services -- but now I'm starting to realize there might be and I'm getting a little worried. I will absolutely need to map subdomains to all of the static IPs provided by my ISP, and in a couple of cases, I will need to map multiple subdomains to the same IP for traffic on different ports (as with the FTP/Web server example above). If I can't do this with TCH, then maybe I've made a mistake... My typical subdomain setup for my static IPs is something like this: ftp2.domain.com - IP#1 www2.domain.com - IP#1 snapserver.domain.com - IP#1 airport.domain.com - IP#2 airexpress.domain.com - IP#3 imac.domain.com - IP#4 office.domain.com - IP#5 ...all of that in addition to the primary server sites: www.domain.com ftp.domain.com ...being mapped to whatever IPs on your servers. Is this going to be doable? I can't open a ticket because I haven't received my account info yet so I can't use the support ticket form. It just didn't occur to me that this might be an issue until after I signed up. Help woooot Quote
LisaJill Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 Just put n/a for the id and password, it's ok. The system won't spank ya. I think that this can be done, just from seeing other threads I remember it coming up before; but it may be a case-by-case basis thing so best to talk to the help desk about your requirements. =) Quote
