Honeycoco Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 Hi, ive got a problem that is becoming extremely irritating. Ive just purchased an ati radeon 9200se graphics card. Ive managed to get into the back of my pc and located an empty slot. Placed the card in the correct position (i think) but the chips look like they are in the wrong place so can't slot into where they are supposed to go. Can anybody help? Quote
Madmanmcp Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 Your video card is available in both AGP and PCI bus so you need to be sure you are putting it in the correct slot. If the metal connectors are not lining up as you have mention then you are using the wrong slot. You may have purchased the wrong type and w3ill need to exchange it, or find the correct slot to use. Honeycoco Posted October 19, 2004 Author Posted October 19, 2004 Thanks for your quick reply. All the slots in the back of my pc are of the same length so placing it into another slot wouldn't make a difference. If i need to buy a different graphics card which one would you recommend that's on the same par as the one i have purchased? Many thanks for your help Quote
TCH-Dick Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 Sounds like you bought an AGP card but need PCI most motherboards have both types of slots, some only have PCI See pic below and it will show the difference The video card you bought comes in both versions PCI and AGP, sounds like you just need to get the PCI version Quote
Honeycoco Posted October 19, 2004 Author Posted October 19, 2004 Thank you! Looking at the pic you sent mines the PCI. Hopefully the company i purchased it from will exchange it. Quote
Madmanmcp Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 Sorry but I don't purchase video cards or know which would be best for you. Hopefully someone else will come along with a good choice for you. What I would suggest you do is a little reseach into what type slots you have available in your computer so you can purchase the correct one. h_tp://www.pctechguide.com/tutorials/GraphicsCard_Remove.htm In the above URL is a picture of an AGP and a PCI slot, the AGP is usually shorter and brown. I would take a wild guess and say you have a AGP card and only have PCI slots in your PC. Quote
