.htaccess Question

Simply create a file called .htaccess (if one already exists, open it) in the topmost directory that serves pages on your site. Add the following code, and save:

 

I always see htaccess files in use but what is the topmost directory if it's not public_html what directory do you save it too?

The top most directory for the .htacess file is the "public_html" folder.
