TCH-Thomas Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 Did a backup of my mozilla emails yesterday and the paths were like this C:\Documents and Settings\Tompa\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\default\e1gb13wn.slt\Mail Then it hits me, who invents names like the e1gb13wn.slt? Quote
borfast Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 LOL Thomas, those names are randomly picked by Mozilla itself as a security measure. There are lots of known vulnerabilities where a mallicious web site owner could code his site in order to exploit those vulnerabilities and gain access to your files. By using those random names, Mozilla adds an extra layer of scurity to your system: even if a hacker uses one of those exploits to gain access to your files, he/she would have to know the exact name of the e-mail folder in order to get it, which would be quite hard, unless you'd tell him/her yourself Hope I made it clear Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted July 23, 2004 Author Posted July 23, 2004 Makes sense. Thanks Raul. unless you'd tell him/her yourself No worries, with names like that I have problem remembering them myself. Quote
