dlevens Posted June 18, 2004 Posted June 18, 2004 What are the files in this folder for? I see a few subdomain folders like somename.**** of test redirects or subdomains that I made and then deleted, but these folders are still in my etc folder. There is also some passwd files quota and shadow files. I am not sure what this folder is used for or what the files are, if someone can enlighten me I would greatly appreciate it. Dennis Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted June 18, 2004 Posted June 18, 2004 You could basicly ignore those folders. They are for anonymous FTP which is disabled on the TCH servers. Since they are part of cPanel's distribution is why they appear. Quote
dlevens Posted June 18, 2004 Author Posted June 18, 2004 ah ok, thanks for the info. I assume they are also safe to delete? Dennis Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted June 18, 2004 Posted June 18, 2004 I dont think deleting them would do any good since they are probably back after next update of cpanel. Quote
voilsb Posted June 18, 2004 Posted June 18, 2004 They are for anonymous FTP which is disabled on the TCH servers. I'm not so sure this is the case. I can anonymously log in to my domain, and can browse the directory tree (/ and incoming, both otherwise empty). Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted June 18, 2004 Posted June 18, 2004 Yes, you can login, try uploading something logged in as anonymous and you will get an error. Quote
dlevens Posted June 19, 2004 Author Posted June 19, 2004 I had both checks set in cpanel for anonymous ftp but when I try to login as annonymous I get error trying to set permissions. So it appears anon ftp is not working. I was connecting to ftp.**** port 21 clicked on annonymous for login settings. Still no go. No big I guess, but curious why those two settings are in cpanel under annonymous setup. Dennis Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted June 19, 2004 Posted June 19, 2004 Many hosting companies use cPanel for site management. TCH does not allow anonymous FTP but other hosting companies may. Since cPanel controls what it includes doesn't mean a hosting company has to permit it. Quote
dlevens Posted June 19, 2004 Author Posted June 19, 2004 makes perfect sense to me. I actually prefer that annonymous is turned off. Dennis Quote
