!!blue Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 Hello all, My question is how do I set up an email (webmaster+****) to blackhole? I don't want to blackhole the default catch-all email address. But I do want to be able to blackhole the "webmaster" one. I get random spam to that email. Or do I have to set up a filter in Horde to get any emails to that specific address & trash them? {side note="trick"} Btw: what I do with the catch-all email is when I sign up to a website for whatever reason (like when I downloaded AVG) I add a phony email like AVG_signup+****. So if I start getting spam to that email I know they sold my email addy & block that email. I signed up at eff.org in a similar manner and can track if they've sold my email, which they haven't. A good trick to keep up your sleeve! {/side note} thanks, !!blue Quote
JTey Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 In cPanel: Mail Manager Main Menu >> Forwarders "Add Forwarder" enter ":blackhole:" as the forwarding destination on webmaster@**** I think this will work..? Update: I just tested a scenario and it worked Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 (edited) !!!blue, your side note is a good idea except that I think this would work better. And you could blakhole your default address doing it this way. Since you open your own domain, you can do what you are doing by simply creating a forward for these email addresses you are using and point them to your regular email. Once you start getting spam in the forwarded address delete it. Then it get's blackholed automatically. Just a suggestion. JTey's example should work also. Edited June 11, 2004 by TCH-Bruce Quote
JTey Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 Btw, when you set forwarding such as: this@domain.com - forwards to -> that@domain.com Does this@domain.com have to exist as a physical created account first? Quote

If you are creating forwards the account being forwarded DOES NOT have to exist only the one where it's going should exist. I have one email box defined in my domain and have 8 forwards going to it at the moment. Edited June 11, 2004 by TCH-Bruce Quote
!!blue Posted June 11, 2004 Author Posted June 11, 2004 Thanks to both of you! Bruce: I don't quite understand your explanation. But what I think you're saying is this: Make "this+****" forward to my regular email that I check all the time. Then if I start getting spam, :blackhole: that email? I'm confused. but thanks, !!blue Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 (edited) Almost. Create this+**** as a forward to your existing account. Once you start receiving spam delete the this+**** forward. And then you blackhole your default address. Edited June 11, 2004 by TCH-Bruce Quote
