Either would be fine. Thank you, Gabi

Hi everyone, I recently asked for some clarification about the rules about sending email and what is considered spam after upgrading to a reseller account and reviewing TotalChoice Hosting's Acceptable Use Policy, which is posted at: http://totalchoiceho...osting-aup.html Here's a consolidation of information they sent to my queries about rules regarding sending email: Please see http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/business/ecommerce/bus61.shtm for an indication of some of the rules and regulations about sending email. In summary the law: bans false or misleading header information. prohibits deceptive subject lines. requires that your email give recipients an opt-out method - that must work. requires that commercial email be identified as an advertisement and include the sender's valid physical postal address By law, bulk emails can be sent only to people who have agreed to receive emails from you. I asked for a definition of 'bulk mail' and what is okay and what's not. They answered: In the very basic, bulk email means nearly identical messages sent to numerous recipients by e-mail. In order to send such (bulk) emails you need to ensure that the email owners have agreed to receive such emails from you as a first step. There are limits to how much email a domain can send at a time. If you open a ticket at the help desk, they will explain the limits. They don't publish them on the TCH website, because they don't want to tell spammers what the limits are. If you are have a TotalChoice Hosting reseller account and a domain hosted by you breaks the anti-spam rules, your reseller account may be suspended. ------------------------- Some other TCH email rules ------------------------- Forwarding email to someone with an AOL/AIM, Comcast, Yahoo, Hotmail, and MSN email address is not allowed on TotalChoice Hosting. This is to prevent TotalChoice Hosting from being blacklisted by those internet service provider companies. Unfortunately in the past there were problems with folks who had TCH domains sending spam, and TCH had to create this rule to keep from domains they host being permanently unable to send mail to those companies. So you cannot set up an alias address in the Control Panel to automatically forward mail to another address or addresses from those companies. It is also not okay to set a regular email address associated with a domain on TCH to automatically forward all incoming email to an email address on those companies. In other words, any automatic forwarding that is not screened first by a human being who specifically selects email (that is not spam) to forward to someone they know is not allowed. Using mailing lists (listservs) such as Phplist and Mailman are not forwards, so would not fall under the same TotalChoice policy. But listservs must have a way for subscribers to confirm that they want to be on the listserv -- and a clear, effective way for someone to unsubscribe - in other words an opt-out method that must work - as mentioned above. ------------------------- Thank you Tom Duncan, Carl Noonan, Andy Beckett, Dick DeVance, Bill Kish, and anyone else who worked behind the scenes on this, for giving me information and feedback so I could be sure I understood how this works, and so I could share it with other folks here on the tch Family Forum. And thanks to everyone at TotalChoice Hosting for great hosting and excellent customer service!

Hi everyone, I'm looking for updated & expanded information. I understand the issue of not wanting TCH to be blacklisted by other hosting companies, and I want to be able to explain the policies to other folks - especially now that we have moved to a reseller account (yay!). Which hosting companies are now banned for domains on TotalChoice to use with email aliases? I was aware that AOL, Comcast, Hotmail, and MSN are banned. I saw someone mention on one of the forums that Earthlink email addresses were also not okay to forward to (as an alias?) but I didn't see that confirmed. Any others? Also, if someone has a regular email address on associated with a domain on TCH, can that be individually set to forward to an email address on one that is banned when mail comes in, or is that also not okay? (ie, forwarded, not an alias). And how does this apply to mailing lists - Phplist and Mailman or other programs that are used on TotalChoice? Thanks for your help, Gabi

Thats what I thought too. I'll see if they answer me, but the script is downloadable at http://www.freecontactform.com/ Thank you. Gabi

Hi folks I just went to add a forward to my email and discovered that there are several unknown email addresses set up as forwards there - to other unknown addresses. I didn't set them up and think its very odd that they are on my site's setup for forwarding. When I tried to delete them a couple seemed to work and with others I got this warning: Fatal! Write Failure: /etc/valiases/climax.lu. Ignore any messages of success this can only result in failure! Help? Thanks. Gabi

I found a good one. Its called Free Contact Form and its at http://www.freecontactform.com/ I have the form posted at http://www.claytonworks.com/form.php So far the only problem I am having is its sending two emails when someone submits the form. I know how to delete one so its not that big a deal but I have asked the support team if they know why. They did answer me when I asked about having more than one form on a site, and about sending the form to more than one persons email address: Then I asked: and I haven't heard back on that yet. But so far I am happy with the script - and it wasn't hard to customize to the look I wanted for the website. But instead of using the semicolon to send to two of us I am using forwarding. At some point I may need the other way so its good to know.

Thank you, Bruce. Any suggestion on which one is best - and free and easy to set up? I know that is asking a lot but I am new to using scripts other than some java editing for menus. Gabi

Hi everyone I am looking at setting up a form and having the results emailed to someone. Microsoft FrontPage Help says: To collect form results in an e-mail message, contact your Web server administrator or Internet Service Provider (ISP) (ISP: A business that provides access to the Internet for such things as electronic mail, chat rooms, or use of the World Wide Web. Some ISPs are multinational, offering access in many locations, while others are limited to a specific region.) to ensure that the server is running Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions (FrontPage Server Extensions: A set of programs and scripts that support authoring in FrontPage and extend the functionality of a Web server.), SharePoint Team Services version 1.0 from Microsoft, or Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services. Additionally, the server must be configured to send e-mail. Contact your server administrator or your Internet service provider (ISP) (ISP: A business that provides access to the Internet for such things as electronic mail, chat rooms, or use of the World Wide Web. Some ISPs are multinational, offering access in many locations, while others are limited to a specific region.) to find out if the Web server that hosts your Web site is confiured to send e-mail. On http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/forums/i...?showtopic=3910 it has a tutorial that looks like this is possible if I have FrontPage extensions installed on the site, but But here (on http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/forums/i...;hl=SharePoint) it says SharePoint isn't and will never be available so I am wondering if this will work? If not, then how can I do a form that would be submitted through email? Thanks for any advice! Gabi
