Hi There! Just moved in a few days ago and have a few newbie questions about emails and spamming.
We made the mistake of putting our real addy into the default email spot. After recieving spam mail all morning that looks like it's from us we learned from the posts here at TCH that we should put FAIL as our default. Done deal. Thanks Forum for your tips! Our spam has slowed back down to it's normal crawl. whew.
But now we have dumb question #1 and dumber questions #2 and #3 and #4.
#1. The spammers used names we don't have set up, such as info@****, advertisement, webmaster, account, etc. With the spam being instantly deleted, how will we know if a name we will want to use has already been stolen by the spam people? If we set up a name such as me@**** and they already have stolen it, will we be able to make it or will the email program tell us that there's already an email with that name? How awful if we make the name that they've already got their teeth into and then our email really will be sending out spam.
#2. Is it possible to change our user name in Cpanel so that our name is easier to remember?
#3. If we change our user name into domainname will the spammers attack us even more??
#4. Do we need to bother with Squirrel mail etc if we already have an isp mail?
