  1. Thanks Andy, Now I understand. It's too bad cpanel and files aren't designed to look and feel a bit more like the familiar computers we already own. I think it would make the transition a lot easier for us non-techies. But then again, I've already shown how little I know. Regards, Michael M
  2. Thanks Don, Can you tell me please; 1. In which folder should you normally install apps? 2. What exactly is the Directory? Sorry for these newbie questions. Thanks. Michael M
  3. Hi Andy, Thanks for your reply. The application is an autoresponder (email and RSS feed). The installer would be either the seller or a third party. Can you tell me how to set up the ftp account and limit access to a single folder? This is all new to me, so a step-by-step guide would be a great help. By the way, how can I determine which folder they need to access? Best Regards, Michael M.
  4. Hi, I intend to have some web applications installed by a 3rd party. Is there anything I need to do (or be aware of) before giving the go-ahead? Thanks for your help. Best Regards, Michael Murray
  5. Thanks David and Rob, My original questions were a bit confusing because I hardly understood what I was asking. The software has an installation wizard that asks for the information I mentioned above. It uses it's own built-in ftp so I don't think I can test it except by doing the installation. I'll try it and see how it works out. Michael M
  6. Hi Rob, Were these comments for David or me? I'm such a beginner at this I don't really understand what you said. Could you please explain what a remote directory is? Thanks. Best Regards, Michael M.
  7. Hi David, Yes, I noticed in the ftp accounts it says you should use "ftp.my-TCH-domain.com". Thanks for your help. Best Regards, Michael M.
  8. Hi, I want to install an application to the server. It's all new to me so I want to be sure I understand what I'm doing. Can you please look this over and advise? Everything in blue is (more or less) verbatim from their installation instructions. Here's what they say: __________________________________________________________________ 1. What is the information of my FTP server? Do I need to change my default FTP port number? FTP Server: yourdomainname.com 2. What is the name of my top-level home directory or home folder? Example: /public_html Example: /www 3. What is the log directory? Log directory is created automatically. __________________________________________________________________ 1. For "FTPServer" I assume I enter: "mydomainname.com" (?). Do I need to do anything about the port number? 2. I assume I enter /www.****/public_html (?) 3. Do I just ignore this since they say log directory is created automatically? Please correct me if I've misunderstood anything. Thanks for your help. Best Regards, Michael M.
  9. Thanks Rob, I'll check there, too. Best Regards, Michael M.
  10. Hi Paul, Thanks for going to all that trouble. My original question really wasn't clear enough - I see that now. I'm sure you're right - I couldn't see how it could be done after looking at the TCH autoresponders. I'm going to check the other options you mentioned. I also appreciate your suggestion about clearing it with the TCH help desk and I'll do that. Best Regards, Michael M
  11. Hi, Before joining the TCH family I asked the Pre-sales forum - "are there unlimited sequential autoresponders?". The answer was yes. By "sequential" I mean a series of emails scheduled to be automatically sent to the same address over time. For instance, a different email sent every 7 days for six weeks - such as an e-course. As I check the autoresponders in cpanel I can't see how to do this. Can anyone tell me how to go about it? Thanks for your help. Best Regards, Michael M.
  12. Hi David, Thanks for your help. That's good to know. The warning sounded a bit ominous but your answer puts that to rest. I appreciate your fast reply. Regards, Michael M.
  13. Hi, I'm just learning the back-end of web publishing and lots of things are a mystery to me, so I'd appreciate your guidance. I'm about to upload my first web page. I use frontpage and was considering publishing from there. Then I saw this warning in cpanel: 1. Do I need to be concerned about that? 2. If I once publish via Frontpage, does that mean I can't upload via an FTP account? 3. Are there any situations where you wouldn't want to (or couldn't) publish from FrontPage? 4. What's the best way to deal with file uploading in general? By the way, FP extensions are already installed in my cpanel. Thanks for your suggestions. Best Regards, Michael M.
  14. Hi Steve, Thanks for the shopping cart tip. I know OSCommerce is compatible and Echo lists a lot of others. Best Regards, Michael M
  15. Hi Rob, Thanks very much - that's a great help. Regards, Michael M.
