  1. I see that this forum has had some spammers, and have read that some other people have had some difficulty with spammers - well, so have I, and they actually take the time to get about 100 or so useless threads out before someone shoots an email to me about it so i can ban them and mass delete the threads (thank the lord for vbulletins mass deletion of posts by user). one person even takes the time to pm me with threats, people are so nice arent they. perhaps they all have a pact to attack at once. and one more concern, which is why i came here. when checking my account through cpanel, i noticed that someone had placed another forums logo into my account - which really wierded me out, and im not quite sure how that could be done. i should have taken a screen shot of it, because i only confused the poor person on the live support system here trying to explain to them what happened. what i did manage to do before deleting it, is save the file onto my hard drive. i dont know how, or who, or whatever did this, or even how it was accomplished, but to be safe i changed all my passwords. what it looks like happened, is they just saved the other forums logo to match the name of the image file of one of my logos, and then just replaced it. its really tough to get me angry, but man, when i discovered that, you couldnt even begin to imagine the confusion, then pure anger i felt. i have one other person (a mod), that has access to an ftp that i set up for them, but i believe they should only have access to a very limited amount. i also trust this person, so i believe them when they tell me they have no idea what im talking about it. could there be a rational explination for this, or has someone cracked my password (which has since been changed)? any ideas? one more interesting note, the forum logo was the logo from the notorious spammers home forum so to speak - the one that pm's me threats. coincidence? unfiortunately he has a dynamic ip so i cant do much, and i refuse to ban everyone from verizon because of him. but i will change my password ALL the time from now on just in case.
  2. Thanks, I wouldnt have known that otherwise, although I do not stream anything, so no worries. Although I have a feeling that would probably blow out my current alloted bandwith in no time, and be server intensive, which is probably why you have put that in place. Dedicated servers, currently looking into them, although I think at the moment there is no rush for me. But thats another issue. Although when that happens, I would be able to stream, but I would still be interested in the legalities of it (well, with music that is). Well, I am an ascap member, perhaps I will just ask my rep about it. Although, ascap isnt the only music liscensing organization, BMI would have to be covered as well. could get complicated and expensive. oh well, i think it woul be a fun option for my members, perhaps its worth it to upgrade to a dedicated server. Ill ponder my options for a while. Cheers, Pierce
  3. I havent used phpbb in a while, but if I remember correctly you just upload the style to you your skin folder (I forget what its called, but wherever your subsilver folder is), and then go into your admin panel and then upload the style. Then set the style options for the forum so your users can't change it. (set the default for the new style) hopefully that helps, and I understood your question correctly. there are a lot of nice phpbb skins out there that are free. it looks as though you need a dark style, google mike lothar, he has a couple black skins that you would wouldnt have to modify much, and they look great.
  4. I think so, I really havent dealt with this kind of audio issue, so I'm not sure though.. Essentially I think its like a radio blog, so the music would be converted to RBS format, and then hidden behind an "index.php" to block people from seeing your /sounds. They would access it through a flash player, so they could listen to it, but not be able to download or upload the music. If you want to know more about it, this is the link to the VB . org thread. You may be able to find more about it there than i know. http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread....highlight=radio does that help? Chris
  5. Ok, hopefully I'm posting in the correct forum. I have a Vb board and was contemplating adding what they call the vbulletin radio. I have been told by them that it is perfectly legal, because my users would in no way be able to access the songs, so they could not download them, steal them etc, just listen to them. Before I did anything, I wanted to check to see if this is ok. Essentially you can add songs to a player, that I have purchased (the songs), and then my members would be able to listen to them as they post. My theory, when in doubt, ask my host. I apologize if this issue has been delt with before, but i searched a couple times, and couldn't find anything relating to this (I was told to post here by the online support team) I know many forums already use this, perhaps I am just a bit paranoid - but better to be safe than sorry! Christopher
