  1. From Tech Support I received the following: Hello, I have restarted the mailman service on the server. Please check whether it has fixed your issue. If you have still any issue, please get back to us with the admin password of the mailing list so that we can check it better. Regards, Richard Laslo Support Desk TotalChoice Hosting LL This fixed my problem. I hope y'all won't stop supporting Mailman. We use it as a group communication tool for our school volleyball booster club. Coaches emailing teams, Officers emailing parents... lots of stuff. We're just now getting geared up for the next school season, which is why we hadn't noticed the service being down before now. Our high activity period is roughly May through November. Go Lake! Beat Creek!n <heh.>
  2. I looked at PHPlist, but I need for members to be able to send to the list. (This is a list of booster club members...) With Mailman, anyone can send to "everyone@clearlakevolleyball.com", and I want to maintain this functionality. I think if I asked members to go to a web page rather than use their email programs, they'd balk. Especially if they had to remember a user name and password or the like. This is not a very sophisticated group. I usually have to manually handle subscriptions and such. Is there a way to get help with why my Mailman list is not working? Or do I need to post that in another thread or forum? (I submitted a ticket...)
  3. I too have been having Mailman troubles. I have not been getting monthly reminders and I've sent mail to a Mailman list I have and it's not going out. I found this thread because I was searching the forum before posting for help about why my mail wasn't going out. But all I see on cpanel for a mailing list choice is Mailman. Am I missing alternatives? Is there a way to make Mailman actually mail, man?
  4. OK. That's why I included full headers. I did not have this activity on my other Total Choice account. So I'll just do the big delete and move on. Thanks.

  6. I found Mailman documentation itself at http://staff.imsa.edu/~ckolar/mailman/mail...ickref-0.2.html It talks about being prompted for my mailing list password. I don't see that prompt when I click on Edit from the CPanel mailing list form. I just get right to the admin page. But if I click on Logout in order to try logging in again and getting the prompt, I can't logout without getting the same message in my first post; that the list does not even exist on the server. I found CPanel documentation for Mailman at http://cpanelmanual.hostingireland.ie/mailingLists.htm I deleted my mailing list and recreated it precisely by the instructions just to be sure... same result. (I think I had used the same procedure the first time I created it.) At the point that I'm hitting the wall, I've actually done very little... just the CPanel config. I'm at a total loss as how to proceed... Has there been some disableing of the CPanel Mailman config like there is for the CPanel anon FTP?
  7. I'm new... and as I've searched archives I've seen references to topics being moved. Didn't know if I was in the right place. I'll give it a shot. It seems that I'm not really using Mailman yet, though. I've just tried to do a config in CPanel to creat the list... then Mailman didn't see it. So it seems like it might not be a Mailman issue.
  8. I went to CPanel Mailing list maintenance and created a new mailing list called varsity@clearlakevolleyball.com. I then clicked on the Edit button and got the Mailman general options page. I made changes and hit Submit Your Changes, but got the following error message... =-=-=-= Server52.totalchoicehosting.com mailing lists - Admin Links No such list varsity_clearlakevolleyball.com There currently are no publicly-advertised Mailman mailing lists on server52.totalchoicehosting.com.To visit the administrators configuration page for an unadvertised list, open a URL similar to this one, but with a '/' and the right list name appended. If you have the proper authority, you can also create a new mailing list. =-=-=-= I know the list should exist because I clicked from it in CPanel to GET to the options page... IT set the name for me on the General Options page... What am I doing wrong? ---Steve
  9. Seems counterproductive. By making the username totally random, users will have to write it down or leave it in their mail files... which most likely makes it less secure. I know there are digital wallets that are supposed to be secure. I use SplashID on my Palm. But what is much more likely is that folks will simply allow their browser autofill and web-dev apps to hold their logon id. Let account names be the account names, and let passwords be the passwords.
  10. I just created a new account for a new domain that I'm managing, clearlakevolleyball.com. I have an existing domain that I manage, pearlandjrs.com, and the username is at least related to the site name in a way that I can remember it. This one is a random set of letters; not even a decent acronymish compilation. Can I submit a ticket or something to get an easier to remember account name? I know what I'd like to have if I can get a choice... It's six letters long.
  11. I am hosting a site for a school volleyball team. Parents take pictures and I want them to get them to me via the site. I first thought of anon FTP but saw that it was disabled. So I went to CPanel and tried to set up a dedicated FTP account. I created a folder called photodrop in my public_html folder. I used CPanel Password Protect Directories to set permissions to world read/write. I went to FTP Manager in CPanel and created a user photodrop@clearlakevolleyball.com with a password. I then went to my FTP program (Interarchy) and tried to log in. Server: www.clearlakevolleyball.com Path: photodrop/ Username: photodrop@clearlakevolleyball.com Password: the one I gave it... I get reprompted for the password because the login fails. If I use my account username and password, I get to the folder no problem. I've tried a bunch of stuff, nothing has worked. Now I can't get to CPanel or FTP in even with my account info... It just times out, like FTP access is locked. What am I doing wrong?
  12. Reference: http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/forums/i...showtopic=14973 My TCH site is up and running! I've gotten the domain name reassigned and email configured... All looks good. I'm surprised how fast the DNS changes took hold. I was redirected basically immediately. In the original thread, I had asked "My current host has no stats package running. Is there a way I can use some type of tool to tell when requests to the current web host stop after my new TCH site is propagating? Some type of external tool to look for requests to the current IP address..." TCH Andy replied: "As long as you don't mind adding a short script to your old sites files, then yes - that could be done. If you are happy to - let me know, and I'll find a short script for you to add." ...meaning, he later clarified, a small javascript for my (I'm guessing index) page on the old host. Well... I'm ready for that point. Can you guys provide me with something so I can tell when pull the plug? Thanks to everyone that has helped and encouraged. ---Steve
  13. I figured it out. The problem I was having was with mail that was coming to TCH (not a DNS timing issue)... I knew this 'cause I have a forwarding rule to send it all to my Earthlink account. There was mail showing up at TCH and I couldn't log in to get it. But I knew MY DNS was pointing to TCH 'cause I get the web site there. My problem was that I had configured the User Name of the mail client as 'username' rather than 'username@pearlandjrs.com' I'm up and running now...
  14. I have a new site that I pointed DNS at today. Email is already going there. I'm able to configure a forwarding rule to get to mail, but I cannot seem to check email from my email client. Site is http://www.pearlandjrs.com I'm using Mac OS X 10.3.5, Mail POP: mail.pearlandjrs.com I must have a config error or something... I get a request for a password, and when I enter the one that I put in with CPanel, it doesn't take. (This password is also hard-coded in my Mail preferences for this mail account...) Help! I've got users that cannot get to the old server 'cause it's redirected here, and can't get to mail at TCH
  15. Thanks, Bruce. So I'll need to edit my script once I start propagation...
  16. I was able to use Interarchie (Mac FTP program). Thanks!
  17. Another question as I convert my site... I use a javascript-based pulldown menu structure. In order for the script to work over the entire site, I use root-based addressing (I forget the real term, but it is where the address in the javacript is "location='/about/join/join.htm'" as opposed to absolute "location='http://www.mysite.com/about/join/join.htm'" [won't work in a template] or relative "location='../about/join/join.htm'" [which also is problematic.]) The issue is the relation of my menu file relative to the root of my site. As an example, my menu currently returns this URL: http://67.15.82.11/team/results/15b/results15b.htm which does not work. It needs to be http://67.15.82.11/~pearjrs/team/results/15b/results15b.htm to work. Which means that my 'root' is http://67.15.82.11/~pearjrs/ This is consistent with what was in my welcoming email. And I can correct for this by changing the 'location' parameters in my javacript from "location='/about/join/join.htm'" to "location='/~pearjrs/about/join/join.htm'" But I'm wondering if this is going to change when the site becomes addressed by my domain name. Will I need 'http://www.pearlandjrs.com/~pearjrs/team/results/15b/results15b.htm' or 'http://pearlandjrs.com/team/results/15b/results15b.htm' I think it is the latter, but if so, this means I cannot use the same javascript addressing 'location' paramenter to test the site before going live versus after the domain name server is set and I do go live. Is this true? Is there a workaround?
  18. Yes, that appears to be the problem. I did the .css file and the styles are now working properly. Is there a way to change this for a folder of files rather than using cpanel a file at a time?
  19. I'm not sure this is the right forum... I just created my TCH account yesterday and uploaded the site that I'm moving here. But my javascript and CSS pages are not loading. Here's the TCH page Here's what it is supposed to look like I cannot even look at the .js or .css files on the TCH site. If I enter the URL: http://67.15.82.11/~pearjrs/pjvc.css I get an error message There has to be something simple that is not set up right... what is it? Also, is there a better forum for these type of tech questions?
  20. Thanks for all of the kind words! I'm off to sign up...
  21. Oh! I thought you meant like a Perl script running on the server as opposed to javascript in the page code. I should be able to handle that if you can suggest a script. Where does the script store its values? just in a text file on the server or something? BTW, I can get to the current site now as well... it was down for a couple of hours at least... The guy that runs the server will just take it down to work on it every now and then without telling us.
  22. I've never implemented a script on a site... so I'll need to get some tutoring on what to upload where, etc, etc... I just checked the site and it is down this morning... Mad!!! Pearland Juniors =-=-=-=-=-=-= How easy is it to change billing info? Our Director is going to be at tournaments all weekend, and I'm thinking I could get a couple of days advance work in if I set up the account with her address but my credit card. Then she could change the credit card info to the club at a later date. Is that doable? I could just do the month-by-month plan at this point and I'm in for less than beer and pizza. I could do everything but the domain nameserver change (since I don't have her account info at Tucows.)
