For what it's worth, it didn't quite work that way for me. After installing through cpanel, then going to the forum page, I was presented with a phpBB Install page. Didn't take long to figure that out, but something seemed broken with the cpanel install of my test bb. When time comes for a live forum install, it would be nice for it to work as advertised. Dunno, may have to do with my registration being new. Other than a bit of newbie frustration, all is good at the moment though.
