Hey guys, Thanks for the advice. I am still feeling out this webmail setup. So far it seems confusing with all of the folders that keep being created. It seems each account I create more folders are created and I can see the folders from other accounts that were created in each account. I am curious, does anyone use the default main email account, the random generated one that is also your login? I am trying to see how to even use that. IS the email address for that account yourloginid@******? Also how do you forward to that account? Do you forward to yourloginid@******? or just yourloginid or :yourloginid: ? I like horde for my webmail but I have 3 inboxes now, a few sent items, and a few trash cans, but I am not sure which folders I can safely delete. I plan on adding more email accounts for family members but I dont want them to see all of these folders and thus see my email, am I doing something wrong? Maybe I need to find a horde email 101 help guide to get me started. Dennis

Bruce, I took a look at your Spam Assassin document and had a question. You suggested that you change your default cpanel email to :blackhole: but then stated that when you got sites like miami herlod that you sign up as miamiherold@****** What I don't understand is how you get this email if you have your default address set to blackhole? Or do you have to go into cpanel and setup miamiherold to allow it through? The reason I ask is I have used a similar strategy for a few years now. I used to have a free hotmail account where I set the spam filter to exclusive (meaning only those on my contact list get through) then I kept my contact list almost empty. I then had my default email at **** to forward to my hotmail account and I allowed all mail coming from @**** to come into my hotmail account. This way only email from @**** would come in and NO email sent to my actual hotmail email was allowed. Since most spam was from hotmail anyway this cut down the spam about 50%. Then like you when I visited websites for bills, or general use I would put my email as thatcompany@**** I never had to go in and add those email address because all email sent to @**** went to the same place. I did blackhole the major magnets like info@mydmain.com and webmaster and sales etc. If I cut off that catchall email address then my work load goes way up as I have to add each and every company@**** that I use. ? Maybe I am missing something? Dennis Levens

Neomail, Horde, And Squirrelmail - Use All 3?
dlevens replied to dlevens's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
If I was to setup a webmail folder redirect on my site would it bypass the main webmail redirect? Dennis -
I have a few folders on my website that have no html and I want only to list several files. I noticed the default directory listing only shows the first 20 characters of the file name. Is there a way to increase this to display the whole file name? I know I can create an index.html file but I am always adding and removing files and I dont want to have to open up the file to add links to the files. Unless this can be automated? Dennis

Neomail, Horde, And Squirrelmail - Use All 3?

How do I make Horde my default client when I go to *****/webmail ? Dennis -
I will take a look at that link. When I signed up for TCH there is no domain transfer. You just change the nameservers. And I believe TCH does not do domain renewals but they recommend a company that does. I would like to also move my domains to a new registrar for renewals but still trying to find out if TCH can do this or who they recommend. Dennis

How To Bounce Invalid E-mail Addresses?
dlevens replied to voilsb's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
Does using either blackhole or fail use our bandwidth? I assume since the email was not delivered either way that email sent to any address at our domain that forwards to either blackhole or fail do not count towards our bandwidth usage? Or if we use fail because it sends a reply that is uses double the bandwidth on our account? Just curious as one of my domains gets a lot of spam. Dennis -
I noticed that when using cpanel to redirect your root domain or folders like ****/folder you can only redirect using http? But in your subdomains you can redirect using http or https. How do you redirect to a url using https? Dennis
-
If you redirect your root domain do all subfolders get redirected as well? IE if I set my root domain to redirect to my free ISP web space is only http://**** redirected? Or if someone typed http://****/folder is "folder" also redirected? Dennis Levens

I am in the process of moving 3 domains to TCH: Levens.com Levens.net Levens.org So far these are the steps I have completed: 1. I signed up a single account at TCH for Levens.com 2. I logged into namesdirect.com and changed the nameservers to TCH 3. I submitted a ticket asking TCH to park Levens.net and Levens.org on Levens.com As of today both .net and .org are parked on top of Levens.com and doing a whois query shows all 3 domains are now on TCH nameservers PLEASE NOTE I want to make 100% sure that namesdirect and **** have no more control over my 3 domains. **** and namesdirect.com are now merged into one company, but originally namesdirect was my registrar where I would renew my domains and **** is where I used their free DNS services for url forwarding and email forwarding. Both of these companies have done nothing for me except lose my emails and have outages and downtime like you would not believe. The reason for this post is to make sure my domains are 100% moved from them over to TCH. How do I verify that everything is now in control of TCH? How can I also change my registrar from namesdirect to either TCH or a company they recommend? Where do I go now to update my whois info? Are there any more steps I need to make to drop namesdirect and mydomain like the rock they are? Dennis Levens

Neomail, Horde, And Squirrelmail - Use All 3?
dlevens replied to dlevens's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
I am probably just not wording my question right. I noticed that there were two sent items and two inboxes, and figured that horde created some folders and then squirelmail also created some folders. So I was asking if your folders for horde are names using INBOX.SENT and INBOX.DRAFTS. I am trying to find out which folders belong to horde, which belong to neomail and which belong to squirelmail, as it seems that all 3 programs are sharing the same folder list. I do want to set horde to be my default webmail so if anyone can enlighten us that would be great. Dennis -
OK Thanks. There is probably an easy way to do this if I setup the subdomain and use html frames somehow. Dennis

Neomail, Horde, And Squirrelmail - Use All 3?
dlevens replied to dlevens's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
Virtual Imager, Since you use Horde, can you tell me the default folder for Horde? I think the reason I have so many auto generated folders is because I logged into all 3 webmail programs and they each created their own folders. So far I like horde the best of the 3 Dennis -
Sorry for such a newbie question, but for webmail I see we get 3 choices, but I was wondering, do we need to activate one of the 3 or are all 3 setup by default and we can check our email using any of the 3 we want? I assume the mail is stored in the same place no matter which webmail program we use? And lastly, when using Horde I see the following folders automatically created: INBOX charter.levens.com dad.levens.com INBOX.Drafts INBOX.Sent INBOX.Trash levens.com mel.levens.com my.levens.com saved-messages sent-mail willcom.levens.com I am curious why levens.com and all of my subdomains have folders in horde? Also what is the difference between INBOX.Sent and Sent-Mail? If I rename INBOX.Drafts to just Drafts does it break the functionality? Probably too many questions so I will stop now Many thanks for the info, Dennis Levens

I have a few subdomains forwarding to external url's and wanted to know if it is possible to setup stealth url forwarding with the option to pass subdirectories? Dennis Levens

Hello everyone, I am sure someone may have asked this question before but I was not able to find anything on it. I submitted my first help ticket and noticed there was a section asking for my cpanel username and my cpanel password. This seems to be security risk, especially since I noticed that the form is not secured with ssl. Is this necessary? I don't like having my cpanel password exposed like that. Dennis Levens

Well I can say one thing for sure, I am blown away already by the response to my post. Looks like I made a great choice Thanks guys for the confirmation. Dennis

Quick question about signing up. It is asking me if I am a new customer or if I have an existing account. I tried using existing acocunt since I have created an account to use these forums, but is this correct? Or is the forum account I am using now not really a TCH account? I would like to use the same email address and password that I used to make this forum account. Dennis
-
GroovyFish, Thanks for the info, that does help, and I too found the forums a major selling point. EDIT: I just read some of the customer reviews on that website you mentioned. It appears my mind is now made up. Ipowerweb would be a major mistake, so I will be making the move to TCH. Dennis
-
Hey guys, I have been shopping around for quite some time and was about to make the jump to TCH when I found ipowerweb. I am still 90% sure I want TCH but could use some help convincing myself. Has anyone out there tried ipowerweb and can tell me why TCH is better? Or if anyone from TCH can offer some pointers as to why TCH is a safter route to take. What is holding me back is the fact that I can get 40GB transfer for $7.95 since space is not much of an issue for me I am not really comparing the storage I would get. But I do a lot of email forwarding for family and friends and my few websites I have see a decent amount of traffic. I am sure there are a lot of things I am missing which is why I am hoping that this forum can help me make the final jump. One huge bonus for TCH is this forum, ipowerweb and most others are not so bold to offer a forum for the community to help each other. Dennis Levens

Thanks Bruce for the clarification. That makes perfect sense now. Do you happen to know if email forwarding would hit my bandwidth or do forwarded emails just get redirected before going through the TCH servers? Dennis

I am considering moving my domains that are currently manged at **** to TCH. But I would also like to know about moving my registrar? Is this possible? It is possible I could just be confused about the roles, but I beleive my registrar is namesdirect.com and my DNS management is ****. Here is my whois info: Registrant: Dennis Levens 5055 Carriage Road Alta Loma, CA 91737 US Registrar: NAMESDIRECT Domain Name: LEVENS.COM Created on: 25-OCT-01 Expires on: 28-SEP-05 Last Updated on: 18-FEB-04 Administrative, Technical Contact: Levens, Dennis 5055 Carriage Road Alta Loma, CA 91737 US Use Email Domain servers in listed order: NS1.**** NS2.**** NS3.**** NS4.**** End of Whois Information Is it possible to move both over to TCH? Who does TCH use to register and renew domains? I think I understand the steps, in that first you setup an account at TCH, then you go to your registrar (namesdirect.com) and change your domain server from **** over to the DNS servers at TCH. But then what? Do I go back to **** and delete my account or anything like that? How does the whois info get changed? Namesdirect has done a decent job as my registrar but it would be nice to switch over to what TCH recommends for a registrar. Thanks in advance for clearing this up for me. Dennis Levens

Thanks Rob for the fast response, I still have a question about forwarding emails and if they would hit my bandwidth. Since I will be setting up most of my 50+ email aliases as forwarders this question is important to me. I am not sure exactly how TCH does email forwarding but I would assume that if I setup for example joesmoe@levens.com to point to joesmoe22@hotmail.com then I think the emails do not actually pass through the TCH servers, sorta like URL webpage redirecting. Is there a way we can confirm this though? It would really make a large difference on what plan I would need to get and how much it would cost me to move from **** to TCH. Also, regarding my two unused domains and "parking" them on levens.com, if they are parked can you still have it so that if someone types www.levens.net or www.levens.org into their browser that they are automatically sent to www.levens.com? Or would this cost extra money? Dennis Levens

I am the owner of 3 domains: levens.com levens.net levens.org Domain Name: LEVENS.COM Registrar: NAMESDIRECT.COM, INC. Whois Server: whois.namesdirect.com Referral URL: http://www.namesdirect.com Name Server: NS1.**** Name Server: NS2.**** Name Server: NS3.**** Name Server: NS4.**** Status: REGISTRAR-LOCK I registered my 3 domains at namesdirect.com and I use DNS management at **** which is part owned by namesdirect.com For the past few years I have used email forwarding and url forwarding. I have approximately 50 email alias setup to forward to various email accounts for my friends and family. I do not have any hosting of emails or websites, only forwarding. However over the years www.**** has dropped the ball and email is lost frequently usually with no bounce back or notice. I currently have a catch all email setup to forward email to my hotmail.com email account. I have hotmail setup to delete all email that is addressed to my hotmail address but I allow any emails forwarded to levens.com to come through. For nearly 2 years now I have been pretty much spam free since my levens.com domain is rarely targeted unlike hotmail and yahoo which get nailed by the millions daily. I have also gotten used to typing in my email address for bills and websites using this format nameofcompany@levens.com. For instance if I bought something from amazon.com my email would be amazon@levens.com. My catch all handles the rest and I know first thing which company has sold my email to spammers. levens.com is the only domain I use. levens.net and levens.org were only purchased for future possible use and to prevent someone from misrepresenting or misleading the levens.com domain. MY QUESTIONS: downtime: I am ready to move to a reliable fast hosting company and TCH seems to fit the bill. However, I would like to know what kind of downtime I can expect if I move all 3 domains to TCH? I would need to resetup all 50+ forwarding email aliases and about 5 url forwarders. Will email be lost and how long will email not be working? I would need to notify many people that the domain is being moved. Space: Does email that is forwarded to external accounts like hotmail.com count towards your bandwidth? Can I limit how much space is given to an email account I host at my TCH account? Like can I create a few mailboxes @levens.com and give each one 25mb? Email: I like the way things have worked out for the past few years having my own domain but still getting my email at my hotmail.com account. It is very convienient to get my email anywhere I can find a web browser, and it is nice to have virus scanning built in, and of course the real benefit of everything being free. **** was free DNS forwarding and hotmail gave me 2mb free email space. I am hoping to keep most of this benefit but adding reliability, speed and more space using TCH. Is there virus scanning available if you host email accounts at TCH? I did see the 3 webmail software programs you have and from what I can tell it should not be too painful to setup. The only functionality I am worried about losing is the virus scanning and notification that an email has arrived ( a feature of Windows Messenger that I have been spoiled with ). Is there a way to have both of those features at TCH? Forwarding only: Does TCH offer free email forwarding and url forwarding similar to the way **** and namesdirect.com do? Or is there only paid plans available? Unused levens.net and levens.org domains: I want to keep these two extra domains but do not need anything setup for them except maybe url forwarding to point them both to levens.com. How would I do this with TCH? Do I still need to sign up 3 plans even if I only want to use levens.com? Thank you very much for your time and help answering my many questions. Dennis Levens
