1. My board has been running fine for months, then all of a sudden over the weekend users get the following error when posting (the board is trying to send a notification): >Ran into problems sending Mail. Response: 550 Sender verify failed DEBUG MODE Line : 164 File : /home/ivlqvetw/public_html/forums/includes/smtp.php I'm still receiving on the account that is being used, so the account seems to be fine. Nothing was changed on the board or in my configuration - it just stopped working. I would appreciate any guidance you can provide,
2. The floodgates are open! Here's what I did: 1. Left the incomming server as mail.****. 2. Changed the Outgoing mail server to the proper Cox server. (Don't ask me why, since I was SENDING mail just fine!) 3. I deselected the checkbox "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" So, basically I changed the settings for SENDING mail even though that was working, and this fixed my problem of not being able to RECEIVE mail. Anyway, thanks to all that helped. Perhaps this post will help someone else out in the future...
3. Hold a sec - I'm making progress. I'll report in a bit.
4. TCH does not support SSL for e-mail. If you have log on using a secure connection checked in your account properties you need to uncheck it. Nope, I don't have it enabled. Obviously Outlook isn't being too specific with its help! Why it can find the server but not connect is beyond me. It won't even find it if I don't use port 26 (as suggested here). With port 26 it finds it but won't connect. It sends just fine, which seems to be the opposite problem most have with Cox. When I try to receive email, I get this: "The server responded 220-server61.totalchoicehosting.com ESMTP Exim 4.34 #1 Fri, 09 Jul 2004 21:50:24 -0500". Does this help?
5. I appreciate the offer, but I'm afraid I don't have that.
6. Just for kicks I tried using the cpanel login/password. Same results; I can send email, but not receive it.
7. Well, no luck on my machine. I just upgraded Outlook hoping it might help. At least it has better diagnostics. It tells me that the server was found, but there was no response from the server. It then tells me to verify that the port and the SSL information is correct. I've tried port 26 and the default of 110 but neither worked. It's sending mail, but not receiving mail. This is REALLY frustrating, as I'm unable to get my email from home...
8. Thanks Rob - changing to Port 26 did the trick on my wife's computer. I'll test it on mine as well. I appreciate your help - this has been driving me nuts! woooot
9. Hi all, I'm hoping someone here can help. I entered a trouble-ticket but the info I was given didn't help. For some reason, I can't get my email through my Cox Internet access. If I check the email from work - no problem. If I try from home I get a "The SMTP server name you specified cannot be found. Please check the name and try again." message. I can't seem to get around this problem - and I'm stumped! Every now and then, I'll get the error yet still get some email, but most often I just continuously get the error. I set my wife up with an email account from my domain, and she gets the same error from her machine (also using Cox). Thanks to any who can help...
10. Thanks. I actually know how to test the authentication, I'm just wondering how long the IP address is held in the cache. I do appreciate your input though, James
11. Heck, I learn something new everyday! Yes, the email address is active in Outlook, so it gets pinged regularly. THANKS! I need to test the authentication of this component. Any idea how long you have to remain idle after checking email to have it reset the IP? I really appreciate your help!
12. I was testing a new email ActiveX component and was surprised when I was able to send email through my mail.jamesfoxall.com mail server with no password. Can anyone send email through my mail server without authentication? Am I just missing something? Thanks for your help, James
