Hey, it's possible for me to add a second domain onto my TCH account right? By this I mean, I'm about to register a second domain, but I dont want to buy a second hosting account, so I can host both domains using the resources from the same TCH account right? How do I go about doing that?

Is there a tutorial or something that describes to a newbie how to setup a cron job? The documentation doesnt really say anything other than "You need to have a good knowledge of Linux commands before you can use cron jobs effectively" which is not much help to me Or, could someone just describe to me the command i need to input in order to backup my forum database every night? Also, would the backups overwrite eachother, or would they be named differently each time, and I would have to delete them every now and then to conserve web space? thanks.

just make sure to keep a copy of the original so you can easily go back to what it's supposed to be once your nameservers are resolved.

you will need to edit your conf_global.php file so that everything points to ip/~username/invision or whatever. I'm in the same situation as you, and that's what I'm doing right now.

what does interchange mean, cuz mine says "failed" (under "server status" via cpanel). Is it because my nameservers havent resolved to TCH yet?

mmm in that case it might actually be better to change my name servers BEFORE I ask TCH to move my database, then when I see it has resolved, ask for the transfer since that would minimize the downtime my forum users would experience (assuming I would get help moving all my files relatively quickly). Otherwise I would have to shut down the board first, ask TCH to move my stuff, then change the name servers and wait with the board off for 1-3 days, because all new posts made after TCH already moved the database would be lost, since the database with TCH would be based on an older sql dump. Does this make sense? Think I should do this?

Okay, so right after TCH moves my domain, if I want the forum that will be on TCH to be the most up to date, I will have to shut down the board right before I change the name servers of my domain, and then wait for it to resolve right? Because if people make posts while it's resolving, the posts will be placed on my old host's database and will not be present on TCH's right? How long would my board be down then? About 24 hours?

I read somewhere than TCH can move my entire domain for me if my old host uses cpanel as well. Well, my old host does use cpanel, but I'm wondering if this move would also move my databases. I always seem to have a lot of trouble getting my forum database working if it gets corrupted or something and I have to restore from a backup, because then I have to split the 16mb .sql file into 20 other files and it's really frustrating. If I have to rebuild my database on TCH using a backup I'm gonna go wacko Thanks.

how important is processor speed when comparing different web hosts? I see TCH is run on 2.4GHZ Pent III's, would 2.8GHZ Pent III's be significantly better? Would 1.2GHZ Pent III's be significantly worse?

ok, Ive also kinda lost track of all the information ive been looking up with different hosts. quick question - TCH isnt a reseller is it? ie, they're not selling space that they bought from someplace else right?

but I could expect to go on for few months without experiencing such a crash right?

I run a forum for a web game clan of around 40+, and it is our main method of communication. Lately my current host has been crashing left and right -- dns errors, and mysql problems are running rampant. Mass hysteria breaks out whenever the forum is down for a single minute, and I get dozens of complaints when it runs slowly. My host used to provide great service, until they took on the actual web game that my forum is dedicated to. Since then, they seem to have forgotten about us lower paying customers, as all their resources are going into the game. What I need to know is, if I switch to TCH, will you be able to provide the kind of reliability I require? Obviously, anything would be better than my current host right now, but in the long run, do pages open quickly and smoothly, and are crashes more of an anomoly, or at least planned, rather than a once a month occurance? I honestly cant tolerate any unscheduled downtime because my members are relying on this forum (we take the game pretty seriously ). Can I depend on getting good support and service even if I'm only on the $4.00/month plan? While I would appreciate staff comments, I'm looking for current members' opinions on the service. Thanks. Oh btw, as a side question that has nothing to do with anything, how did you (forum manager) reshape the "Clickable Smilies" box to be vertical instead of the default horizontal that IPB comes with? I tried to figure it out so I could fit more smilies, but I gave up Are you able to configure how many smilies are in each column/row? thanks
