  1. Boxfire- Sorry, I won't be much help -- I know just enough about mod_rewrite to ask if it's enabled. But, I looked at the apache docs for it, and wow, we could get into some real trouble with this thing! Still, your rewrite rule looks okay... so it does it rewrite a URL that looks correct? But still gives a 404? What if you add the "R" flag to force the redirect, so it looks like: >RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} ^go=(.*)$ RewriteRule ^index\.php$ /columns/%1? [R,L] Otherwise, I'm empty -- time for a big review of my regexps. -Alan
  2. Strictly speaking, Movabletype isn't actually open source -- users aren't allowed to modify and then redistribute the software. Have you used WordPress much? I have been using Movabletype for a couple of years and am thinking of switching, and have been considering WordPress. Its installation is a lot easier than Movabletype's, but I agree that it's not as polished on the user end of things. Still, it's smaller and seem a little sleeker in some ways. Cheers- -Alan
  3. I'm guessing that that string is related to referrer spam -- it's nothing to worry about, and doesn't actually reflect any content or genuine inbound links to your site. We've had some discussion of this kind of referrer spam, but I couldn't dig it up via a search. Anybody remember that thread? -Alan
  4. Sweet, thanks, Mike. You guys rule. -Alan
  5. Hrm, tat's exactly the form of a php cron job that I run. I'm not sure in this case if the file's permission's matter, but it's worth checking; is the file set to execute? Does the script work properly if you run it through your browser (ie, pointing the browser to yourdomain/directory/update-quiet.php)? Checking that might help with troubleshooting. -Alan
  6. Hi everybody- I'm considering using some weblog software that can optionally use mod_rewrite to reformat URLs. Is mod_rewrite enabled on the TCH servers? Thanks- -Alan
  7. From freshmeat.net I came up with a PHP mortage calculator that might do the trick. It's free, released under the BSD license. It's not java, but if that's not an absolute requirement it might be worth a look. -Alan
  8. You know, the chick flicks aren't always too bad -- but it is nice to share some common interests. She has yet to crack in some regards, however; I have to wait for her to go out of town to rent anything scary. And the last time I tried to take her to a romantic movie at a theater, we had a huge monsoon rain, were stranded at home as our street turned into riverfront property, and when we finally got to the theater, it had been struck by lightning and closed for the night. That's what happens when I try to be romantic ... sigh. -Alan
  9. *Great* link -- maybe it's time to update the colors on my own weblog. Thanks! -Alan
  10. Good strategy, Rob. I will give it a try. (Actually, Heather's movies are usually pretty good... just goes to show, you're in pretty good shape when your first date is renting Aliens.) You can see more about Bubba Ho-Tep at the movie's official site. -Alan
  11. Hi everybody- The forum somehow seems to have forgotten who I am. I reregistered, and my old posts are still around, but like this one, they don't seem to know who I am anymore. Thanks to Mike for doublechecking the database earlier when I couldn't log in and verifying that, true enough, schussat was no more. Anyway, I'm back from wherever I've been, re-registered with the same old user name, and I wonder if this has happened to anybody else? And, in the spirit of making for more discussion than that limited to my little pity party, I see that Bubba Ho-Tep, a new film starring Bruce Campbell as an aging, mummy-fighting Elvis Presley, has finally made it to Tucson. I can hardly wait to go see it, but my wife fell asleep during Army of Darkness (Brazil, too), and just doesn't get Bruce Campbell. So how do I convince her to go see it with me? -Alan
