I am having a terrible time with mod_rewrite in my htaccess files. I have a wordpress installation at the root level of my siteand am using the rewrite rules to change the permalinks. Today I discovered that this htaccess file was affecting all lower level directories except for one, which is another wordpress installation. Other directories being affected are one with regular .shtml files, another wordpress installation and a password protected directory. The lower lever directory that is working fine also has mod_rewrite rules for the permalinks as well as rules for a wordpress cache plugin. All other directories do not have rewrite rules and are redirected to the root level's 404 page when a page can not be found rather than it's own. And the password protected directory can not be accessed at all - it simply gets routed to the root level 404 as well. The root level htaccess is standard for wordpress <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule . /index.php [L] </IfModule> A google search showed me that if I didn't want the root level htaccess to write to lower level that I should add lines like this RewriteRule ^games/.*$ - [PT] - this is the password protected directory and this should follow RewriteBase / I added this line for each subdirectory that I did not want to be affected but nothing has changed - all 404's and the password protected directory are going to the root levels 404. I thought it was strange that one wordpress installation was not affected - the only thing that I can determine is that is has rewrite rules for permalinks as well but the other wordpress subdirectory does not. This one uses the default permalink structure because it contains other (messy) php code that does not work if I change from the default (this would be a project for another day). If I change the root level's permalinks to default everything works properly but this will change the links and the links would not be as friendly to search engines so I don't want to do that. If I remove the password protection I can also access that directory. So, I guess there is some sort of conflict and the lower levels that aren't working properly need specific instructions in their own htaccess or perhaps I don't have this line RewriteRule ^games/.*$ - [PT] correct in the root htaccess If you need the specific url's, please let me know. I can not access my webmail via horde, which is what I always use. I used it three hours ago and it was fine but since then the page will not load to let me in. All other features of my account are working - http. ftp, popmail, etc. Thanks! Kim edit ... make that email not erbmail (whatever that is)

Doh! I thought you were telling me my Spam Box wasn't enabled. Thanks again - I think I've got it figured out now.

Ok - now I have another question. I have my mail email account and have set up all unrouted mail to go to blackhole. So if something comes to an alias other than my primary account it will be deleted correct? I have, however, done a couple of tests and I don't seem to be getting any mail at all. I was hoping that I wouldn't see the ones with an alias but I would see the ones for my actual account email. I'm confused. Kim Also, I just removed the blackhole until I figure it out because I want mail to get through. I figured this out - the spam wasn't going to my mail account name address. I removed the blackhole and have added filters for the email account aliases that are giving me the most trouble. The filter set up primarily for Spam Assasin, however, still doesn't seem to be working properly.

Hi, Thanks for the advice. I have set up the filter you mentioned and my Spam Box is enabled. All mail marked as Spam is going into the Spam folder in Horde but it is not being deleted - it is like the filter doesn't exist. So, I guess my question is why isn't it working when I seem to have everything set up properly? The rest of the instructions are great. Thanks for your help. Kim

Hi, I am tired of all the spam I am getting. I have spambox enabled but what I wanted to do was set up a filter to delete all mail marked as spam by spam assasin. I don't care if I miss a valid email I just want to delete it all. In email filters there are the following instructions "To filter all mail that SpamAssasin has marked as spam, just choose "SpamAssassin Spam Header", "begins with", and then enter "Yes" in the box. " I set up this filter and set "Discard" as the destination but nothing is being deleted - it is still sitting in the Spambox. Am I missing something here? Also, my email is set up to deliver anything *@mydomain. I've looked at the instructions but I stil haven't figured out the best way to set it up for a specific address at my domain. There are two email aliases that are giving me the most trouble so I thought this might be another way to cut down on the spam problem. I hope I am explaining this ok - I used to have my email on a website and removed it to late - I am getting hundreds of spam emails a day. Thanks, Kim

I have Spam Box enabled so that all spam email is filtered into this folder. Over the last couple of weeks I have been getting about 20 spam emails in my inbox that are not being caught by spam assassin and filtered into this folder. Prior to this only the occassional Spam got into my inbox. Has something changed or do the definitions or something for Spam Assasin need to be updated? Thanks, Kim

Hi, I am trying to add a new table to one of my mysql databases. When I go to save the structure a page that looks like it is being added quickly shows and disapeers and I then get a 'This page can not be displayed error'. Hi, I am a new member and have a question / concern about my DNS /nameserver transfer. It has been three days since my domain name registrar has updated the nameservers and my domain is showing as unavailable. Initially my domain still showed up at my old host and now it doesn't show up at my old host or here. I double-checked at the registrar and the dns has been changed and is correct. At first I just figured it was part of the propogation process but now I am starting to worry. The only way I can access my account here or my old account is via an IP.
