How Do I Do This (domain To Abc & Subdomain To Xyz)
john replied to john's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
JimE - I wish the store could be hosted at TCH, i have nothing but praises for TCH. It ha$ to be on their servers though (Volusion). -
I looked at the .htaccess tutorial and i'm still not sure how to accomplish what i need to do. Here's what i currently have: - Domain abc.net hosted at TCH and registered at TCH and the DNS pointing to TCH - Domain abc.com is registered elsewhere and the DNS is pointing to TCH and TCH has the abc.com parked over abc.net - abc.net & abc.com point to the same "site" which is our retail store (actionhobby.net & actionhobby.com are the "real" url's). Here's what i need to do: - Have abc.net & abc.com go to another ISP that hosts our "new" online store. - Create a subdomain like "retail.abc.com" & "retail.abc.net" to go tho TCH and point to our current site. - There will be a link on our new online store to go to "retail.abc.com" - Of course i need the URL in the browser to remain as a "real" URL, no funky numbers. I'm not sure if i have to change the DNS for abc.com & abc.net to point to the new ISP for our new store or if this can all be done in .htaccess. If i do have to change the DNS, how do i get "retail.abc.com" to come back to TCH? Sorry but the above is making my brain squirm like a toad. Thanks. I'm sorry if i'm not clear on what i need to do. John

We switched over to http://totalchoicehosting.com @3 months ago and i can't tell you how happy we are with it. Fast response to questions via IM or this board, great price for value, I have absolutely NO complaints whatsoever and have recommended this site to anyone who i see is looking for a new home. My hat is off to everyone at totalchoicehosting.com. Keep up the great work! THANKS! John

Would it be possible to put scripts and other directories UNDER the public_html folder. Some folders that are required for a BB i want to put up have folders with 777 permissions....hate to have them "available" to all
-
Yea, i may need one! Can i work from home?
-
Nevermind:) I reinstalled FP extensions and it's all good now:).
-
here's what i'm doing using FP 2000: -open frontpage -click "open web" -click "web folders" -under "folder name" i type "http://americanraceway.com" - a "Enter Network Password" box appears - i enter my username & password i signed up with - i click "OK" after the above the "Enter Network Password" box appears again FP logs the following "error" after 3 tries: 12/17/2002 21:38:22 You are not authorized to perform the current operation. If you guys want to make another password for my site and try to open the web you are MORE than welcome to:).
-
when i type in americanraceway.com it is pointing to your server now so i "guess" it's propped? Does it take awhile to "go around the world"? If not...i'm done with the ip and i THANK YOU again!
-
OK....the domainname is now pointing to SN and when i try to "open" the web that i have on SN it asks me for my password/username, i put in the one i signed up with and it does not accept it. FP does accept it when i publish using ftp...but not http and i "NEED" to use http to connect to my site on SN. Any thoughts? John

Ayman, Would it be possible to keep this IP (http://66.246.43.133/) until the name is propagated? I put the request in this morning to my current registrar. I would like to have users start using the BB on your host rather than the old and i can forward the "old" to the "new" with that IP. If not i will need to copy all the new messages/users to your server once pointed here. Let me know and thanks again. JohnG

Sorry about that Alan:( I know when i'm testing and people do that i email them the finger . Thanks again all! JohnG
-
Alan, it's working 100% perfectly. Not sure what you did but it works...Thanks to all involved. I'll be transferring the dns tomorrow to SN:). Thumbs UP to this Company & the Employees! JohnG

Before i start uploading the software.... is it "ok" to use the cgi-bin folder UNDER the public_html folder? Or should i use the one "in" the public_html folder? Actually there's 2 "in" the public folder: cgi-bin & scgi-bin. Thx again.
-
Domain name is americanraceway.com . Not sure if it matters but it already exists out there....didn't transfer yet:). Thank You!
-
I tried putting it IN the public_html folder rather than under it and now i get the following when i enter http://66.246.43.132/~john/cgi-bin/hello.cgi rather than http://66.246.43.132/hello.cgi. Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator, root@server4.dedicatednow.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. I'm just a liiiiittttlllleeee scared that our board won't work:). Would you happen to know if anyone is running Infopops UBB (Classic version 5.xx or 6.xx) on any of your shared servers?
-
It's the one i got in my email telling me my account is active: http://66.246.43.132/~john I need to use the above before i change the current DNS.
-
Little more info... It's in the cgi-bin folder that was already there and the permission is 755
-
Ok. Having a little trouble executing a test .cgi script. I get: Forbidden You don't have permission to access /hello.cgi on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Apache/1.3.27 Server at server6.***** Port 80 The script is: #!/usr/bin/perl # Alert! The web server is *NOT* processing the script if you can read this line. print "Content-type: text/html\n\n"; print "Hello world from PERL $]\n"; print "<p>.cgi scripts are mapped to Perl."; Can you help? I need to figure out what's up before i can bring over our bulletin board. The permissions are set correctly. To test type: http://66.246.43.132/hello.cgi Maybe it's the same as this: http://forums.*****/index.p...3c8a22e5928d606 Let me know....thanks

Lianna - i got it over...thanks for your offer. I have to say, the response time on your hosts are faster then the one i'm on today paying 4x as much for. That's a GOOD thing:).

No, FP won't let you do parts. Is there a way to remove the timeout based on my userid? I'm publishing from my HD now and i'm getting timedd out out a STOR command. Will i have this problem when i publish via HTTP?
-
The timeout is the problem then. I'm trying to publish from a Zip drive and it has to gather all the folder info from the Zip before it starts FTPing it. The site has alot of folders.... @200mb total... i think:). I'll back it up to my HD and try again tomorrow night. Thx.
-
Yea...me and *****guru had fun with that already . I just keep publishing after i get the dis-connection. Now i'm getting LPRT 500 not understood and get disconnected . Gotta love FP. I still have a few feet left on my rope! Can you see any errors in a log somewhere that would explain the disconnect?
-
Nope...can't use FTP software, need those darn FP tricks to change the URL's
-
Hello:) I'm trying to publish my site via FTP thru FP2000 with not much luck. FP starts publishing the way things should then after @20 seconds of transferring iFP gets "stuck" on one file..... then after a LONG time (maybe 5 minutes) FP come s up and says "The server unexpectedly closed the connection". I went into cpanel and saw the following: (I x'd out the IP address) proftpd: john pool-xxx-xxx-xxx-xx.phil.east.verizon.net: STOR _themes/ar/flagback.jpg 08:54 Couple minutes later: proftpd: john pool-xxx-xxx-xxx-xx.phil.east.verizon.net: STOR _themes/ar/flagback.jpg 08:54 I looked at the above file on your server after i got the connection closed message and it was/is 0 bytes. I've been trying many times to get the site over with no luck:(. "Hangs" on a different file each time. Any idea if it's ok to NOT use FP to ftp over? I can't use HTTP via FP since i do not want to xfer the dns until i can get the site over to your server. Here's my IP: 66.246.43.132
