Well, I deleted the Threes theme, didn't seem to be causing any errors though, as I'm still having the same problem. Here is what I typed into my custom permalink structure box: /%category%/%postname%/

Disabling my permalinks seemed to do the trick (set it to default structure), but does that mean everytime I change my theme I have to change my permalink structure? I wanted to keep the custom structure I already had (not to mention that is how Google, Yahoo, etc. read all my indexed pages). Because after I change the theme and set default permalinks so everything is working again, I changed it back to my custom structure and updated, but then it would go right back to my "default theme". EDIT: I also tried this with other themes, but same issues arose.

I tried a couple of different themes, but the ones I was aiming for were: Neon Green 1.0 OR Threes 1.0 Beta

I'm pretty sure that is what I did, just to be sure, I'll give you my step-by-step: 1. Found theme and downloaded the folder to the desktop 2. FTP'd the compressed folder to cPanel 3. Extracted its zipped contents in cPanel 4. Theme showed up in Presentation tab of wordpress dashboard 5. Started encountering problems I mentioned earlier, once I activated the new theme

Yeah, the site in my Sig is the one I was referring to.

So I decided I wanted to try a few different wordpress themes to get a feel for them. After I finish downloading a theme just fine, I click on “new theme activated: view site” to see how everything looks, which is normal, but then I click on my different category pages, archives, etc. and it reverts back to the “default theme” I originally had installed, even when I click back button, the homepage will change back to "default". It seem like my site is “stuck” with the default theme. I’ve also tried changing the permissions, without success though. My version is the newly released 2.2. Anyone know the source of my problem? Fixed the redirect problem FileZilla works like a charm, much better than Dreamweaver's FTP program.

Now everything's working fine! I appreciate all the help everyone Is this sort of client free? and how fast does FTP work with it? (I'm not familiar with all the FTP programs, etc. out there, Dreamweaver's came with the software package so I just used it because it was there.) I also visited the site and do I download all five files? If so , the is there a particular place required to download them to?

Thought I had copied everything over from cpanel, guess not. But when i try to "get" the file it won't let me, I'll have to find some other way to put it in my FTP file.

I did everything heyguy said except for deleting the wordpress 2.2 folder, just to be on the safe side and get it up and running first.

Well, I was able to FTP all my files ono the "public-html" folder, so there is no problem with that, but... Now none of my pages are accessible except my homepage, all the others get 404 bad requests.

I think whenever I try to "put" files (like wp-admin, wp-content, etc.) onto the server, it is just recopying over them (inside the wordpress 2.2 folder), even though I tell it to copy onto the "public-html" page. My FTP program I'm using (Dreamweaver, which is what I have also used for my old site) has also been acting screwy(operations timing out, cancelling FTP processes, etc.). I don't know if I should remove my wordpress 2.2 folder "before" trying to upload the files, because that might do the trick, but deleting it would also mean I would lose all information I built using wordpress.

So where would I go to retrieve it from the "system folder elsewhere"? Is it in cPanel? Is this a "one-time process" or do I have to reconfigure everything everytime I add a page, modify the theme, etc?

I think it would be easier if there was a way I could just "hide" the wordpress folders in the URL, is this at all possible, so I don't risk losing information trying to FTP the website?

I just started using wordpress (2.2, so no converting involved) and all my categories display fine (I have seven of them).

I tried moving this folder “public-html” > wordpress2.2 > wordpress to under “public-html” and got nothing from my domain, then I moved “public-html” > wordpress2.2 > wordpress > wp-content to under “public-html” and still got nothing, so I’m still not sure which folder I’m suppose to move?

I don't understand, because my wordpress 2.2 folder is already there, so how do I “get rid” of these folders? (which is already part of the hierarchy) (or do you mean a specific wordpress folder within this 2.2 one?) Also, what should I set my redirect up as for my homepage? Because my new homepage’s current URL is: http://www.toptenlisted.com/wordpress-2.2/wordpress/ Or once I move it, will it automatically be my new homepage? (since the folders won't be there)

Thanks for the "vote fo confidence" I suppose I should also ask "how" do I move the files? After I delete all my old pages, which folder should I click on to move? Because I don't want "wordpress" in any of the pathnames, just have them removed. I'm not exactly sure which folder contains all my wordpress information.

I just finished redesigning my site using wordpress, so I had a few more questions, I want to delete some “inner folders” and move my wordpress documents to the front of cpanel. For example the URL is currently: http://www.toptenlisted.com/wordpress-2.2/wordpress But I want to move it to just http://www.toptenlisted.com/ 1. So what would I need to do to transfer everything without disrupting any internal hyperlinks? 2. Also, with wordpress, just wanted to be sure if I change anything, like the theme, plugins, etc., if everything would remain safe? (As in my google rankings wont be affected, or setup of custom features don’t drastically change) 3. I’ve already submitted to tons of directories and posted in many forums, so would the directories automatically read my new site theme or Lastly, I wanted to have a clean permalink chain, I wanted it to look something like: http:/www.toptenlisted.com/advice/top-ten-reasons/ I’ve already tried posting this in the “custom structure” box: http:/www.toptenlisted.com/%category%/%postname%/ Which turned out wrong, and this gave me something else different entirely. (I’ve also posted this in the .htaccess file, or whatever code they said was suppose to go there) 4. This is exactly what I want to do, but when I create pages, the URL looks nothing like that. Also, how exactly could I have my “list of links”, because when I create a hyperlink to the page, it would change when I move it to the main site, or is there any special plugins or something I could use to create a “list of links” page?

So are you saying that it would be better for my main site to have a directory like: http://www.toptenlisted.com/advice/top-ten-reasons THAN subdomains like: http://advice.toptenlisted.com/top-ten-reasons Also, is it possible to assign URL’s to certain wordpress pages? Or is that all done after I move everything? I think I am still unsure about the whole “pages” thing, if I’m understanding this correctly: -The page.php will move into whichever template you are currently using for your site - I can’t view individual wordpress pages in cpanel (to assign them to a specific part of the “public html” directory)

Well, I was experimenting with pages, subdomains, etc. and I had some more questions: 10. Is it possible to assign certain pages to a subdomain? (For example, I created a wordpress page titled “advice lists”, and I want to assign that page to my “advice.toptenlisted.com”, so when someone enters the subdomain in, they will be taken to my “advice lists” wordpress page.) Is this even the best way to go about it (because I want these pages to contain a list of links to some of the lists I write) 11. Where can I find my wordpress-created pages in cpanel? 12. I’m still unsure of what the code for creating my custom permalinks would be? (Because for some pages, they will be under the subdomain [advice.toptenlisted.com] and others wont even relate to my list pages [such as an “about me” page]) I’m not even sure if this is the right code for permalinks, but I know I want it to look something like this when I’m finished: http://(subdomain or www).toptenlisted.com/top-ten-reasons/ Thanks Again

I just wanted to be clarified about “bumping” Say in a thread I created and posted last in, I didn’t get all my questions about the topic answered. So is it against the rules to add another post to ask more questions? Is this considered illegally “bumping” the thread? Or should I wait for someone else to post so I can ask?
